DD locked out of facebook

Facebookquery · 28/02/2011 20:24

Hi
I am not a user, so not sure whether this is genuine, but DD has been locked out, (don't ask why!) and to get back in she has been asked to submit a copy of her government ID, ie passport, showing picture, dob and full name. I will not allow her to submit this information as I think it is a scam - does anyone have experience of this please or any advice to offer.

Thank you.

How old is she?

QueenOfFuckingEverything · 28/02/2011 20:31

Yeah, is she over 13?

TallyB · 28/02/2011 20:33

It does sound like a scam - unless she is believed to be too young to use Facebook and they are giving her the chance to prove otherwise.

How did she discover she has been locked out? If it was via an email be very wary! If it was through the site (check it is facebook.com, not some other address that may or may not include the word facebook) then it is probably genuine.

usualsuspect · 28/02/2011 20:33

I've never heard of this happening to anyone

how old is, she has someone reported her page?

usualsuspect · 28/02/2011 20:35

I think its a scam

thisisyesterday · 28/02/2011 20:36

yes, has she accessed this via an e-mail?

TallyB · 28/02/2011 20:37

There is a page on FB for people who've been locked out that might be useful www.facebook.com/help/?page=1048

Gave it a quick scan and they appear to ask for a phone number to verify an identity; there's no mention of asking for a passport.

usualsuspect · 28/02/2011 20:37

tell her to email fb and ask

TheMonster · 28/02/2011 20:38

It could be that someone has hacked her FB account. Is she old enough to be on it though?

Facebookquery · 28/02/2011 20:40

she is 14, and stupidly shared her log in with 2 other friends, so facebook locked down on her!

Thanks for the answers, can't see how to email fb on the help pages though.

No point anyway, you'll just get the form response 'oh we can't respond to every query cos we're so bloody rich now we're all on cruises' or something.

I'd follow tallyb's link, don't provide ANYTHING with full ID details on it
