Get well messages to a coma patient

I wonder if anyone can help me with this. A friend of my parents has had a severe stroke and is in a deep coma. Her prognosis is not good.

I'm agonising over how to write a get well soon card. I'm stuggling with tone. I can't write a funny message as we don't have that kind of relationship, but I am genuinely very fond of her. How to get that over without sounding like an obituary though?

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Sorry to hear this.

I think you need to go along the "thinking of you all at this difficult time" rather than "get well soon" as you have said the prognosis is poor. Apart from that, I'd be at as much of a loss as you!

You should make it one her relatives can read out to her.

Include some memories 'I remember when you made my laugh by ......

And end it with: 'you are in my thoughts'.

It's really hard though isn't it. I had to send one to a friend who was in hospital with something contagious (hence no visitors) but I knew she wouldn't be able to read it so I had to just write down little stories I knew would make her smile. Apparently she did enjoy it. She died though :(

Thanks for your help - I managed a few not-too-stilted lines after a bit of pencil chewing. Now it is a waiting game.

Good luck flybynight. Whatever happens from this point on, you have done the right thing. I hope she makes it :)
