Would you change wedding date for a venue?

So DP and I have set a date on May for our wedding - small affair, and yes we know it's a bit last minute. We've been struggling to find a venue that fits our needs and budget, and having finally found one that we think does the job, it's not available on the date! Wondering whether to change the date to a week before so we could get the venue - would also mean DP's nephew could come whereas with current date he's unable to. Is it ridiculous to change the wedding date just for a venue? It's booked with the registry office but full amount not yet paid - would probably lose £30 deposit but could cope with that. No invitations have been sent but have told a lot of people the date. WWYD??

I would definitely change it - it's still a long way off. I organised my wedding in about 3 months... mainly because that was when I could get the venue we wanted!

Yes, of course change a date for a venue.

That happens all the time.

I changed my date for the venue. There you go.

Thanks for all the replies! Pretty unanimous - guess we'll be changing the date then! Thanks again :) Love MN advice, always there when you need it!

remember to double check with registry office that they have availability on that day first - you never know, they may well be happy just to shift your booking rather than make you lose the deposit...
