Moving to Munich on 6m contract, 2m preggy- where to prenatal care

Dh has a 6m contract in a town outside of Munich, we're 7weeks pregnant so technically would be back in the UK 2 weeks before the birth of dc2 assuming it's a timely and not early child...
Would you do prenatal care there? here? mixed?
There- language is an issue, insurance an issue
Here- need to travel back for each appointment
mixed-???

thought ideas help appreciated

I think it would make most sense to have care where you are going to give birth if possible.

But obv register in Germany in case something comes up.

What about limit on flying-have you taken that into account?

It´s unlikely that the medical professional won´t speak excellent English & be happy to "show that off".

I was thinking the same thing diddl.
As for the flying I was thinking for the early (ier) bits I could perhaps fly, but driving also is also a reasonable option I believe at this point. --We shall say for sure once we have actually do it and change our plans accordingly.

Hello again Smile

I would say that the prenatal care here has been excellent (I am 18 weeks along). I have had fortnightly appointments, and they have scanned me every single time, and done an internal examination - eek! but I am getting used to that part. I feel the care has been v thorough compared to UK, where I had DD.
I can't really speak German, my dr is fairly competent in English, and I didn't go out of my way to find him, he was jsut the nearest one.

Hi Tabitha that's good to know. I think that we'll be getting prenatal in Germany and then be back for the delivery here. I talked to a MW today over here and she said that it would ok in her view point if that's what happened as long as nothing goes hairy with the pregnancy (like I'd need to go consultant led). I'm a little wary of having so many scans if there's nothing wrong with the baby/pregnancy, seems overkill, but perhaps I'll do some research on it and see why they do so many.
We've done ton of calling around and apparently if dh fills out all the right forms we'll all be covered through his UK company through the NHS -as long as we don't go over 6m.

Hello. I take it is a go then? Congratulations.

Go for prenatal checks in Germany.

The risks of flying are higher than the risk of an extra scan or two - which you can refuse if you want to.

I had loads of scans because I had a history of miscarriages. I have never heard anything about them being dangerous for the baby.

MmeLindt · 06/01/2011 18:26

Oh, and every single Doc I saw in Germany spoke English.

:) It is a 'go!'
unless some catastrophe hits
:) We're very excited.

Making lists of things to bring... I'm worried abt not having enough toys for dd 21m Wink
