I have put an envelope with £50 in it through the door of a very long standing friend who is having money troubles. It won't go far but I want to help.

She has texted me to ask if it was me.

Do I own up or deny all knowledge?

Say yes or else she might be worried about it.

Own up or she'll be freaked. But you could go all coy and say "Oh it must have been Father Christmas" so that she's left in no doubt that it was you but not put in the position of having to gush thank-yous if you like. IYSWIM.
I'd own up though.

Thank you - I have said it was father christmas. She texted me back that she cried.
