applying for a bar licence

Hi - I'm in the tricky position of doing something I'm not keen on doing.

Basically the committee for a local I'm in has decided we should have a licenced bar for a production we're putting on. As the chair person, I'm not able to be there for 2/3 nights out of the 5 and therefore don't think I should apply for the licence as I won't be on the premises to oversee the running and selling of alcohol.

I applied for a previous one but that was an adults only do so and I was there on the night and so felt easier about it. I can just imagine alcohol being bought for under 18s in the cast after everyone has gone etc. There are quite a few teens aged 14 and over and I feel put in a difficult position. I'm not saying that would happen but without actually being there myself, I feel this should be down to someone else.

However, this time, there will be under 18s atching the show and in the cast and I feel that as it would be in my name, if anything went worng and the licensing rules were broken, then I would be the one responsible.

Someone has already told me it should be my place to apply.....how easy for someone not responsible to say.

What would you do???

Isn't it a condition of the licence that you be there if it is in your name? So you can't.
Long time since I was a licensee and things have changed but with the new licenses, I would have thought it would be part of the rules for you to be there.

I would have thought that too Sue - but having read the rules, it's tricky to see if that's a condition. I will call the council later this afternoon to see what they say perhaps.

All sorted - council have said that yes, the applicant has to be there every night. Hooray - I can stop worrying now.
