what do you do with old knickers?

In the last 7 years it is fair to say my weight has fluctuated - got married (was thin), got pregnant, had baby, got pregnant again......you get the picture.

This has left me with a quandry - I have two bin bags full of knickers and bras that no longer fit that currently reside in the loft taking up space. I want to get rid of them but how?

Take them to the tip - don't fancy seeing my smalls flying about in front of the other people dropping off their rubbish.

Give them to a charity shop - do they want old knickers?

Leave them out for the bin men - & have them perv over my old thongs!

Answers on a postcard please.....

Make a patchwork quilt?

Myleetlepony · 05/11/2010 19:26

Er, you could sell them on EBay. Blush

turkeyboots · 05/11/2010 19:30

I once met a senior rep of the Salvation army at a work event. He said they can never get enough donations and range of sizes of underwear donations for female rough sleepers. Cause everyone put them in the bin. So if they are still in decent condition, it may be worth finding a Salvation army donation box?

Simbacatlives · 05/11/2010 19:36

When my grandad died the salvation army came to take his clothes. We hadn't included his pants or long johns or socks but they asked if we had any as they do not get enough donated and have to buy them and it's pricey.

I take ours to recycling at tip with worn out clothes and holey stuff. Rest goes to charity shop.

Lurpak · 05/11/2010 19:39

Sell them on ebay

Myleetlepony · 07/11/2010 17:17

Oh Lurpak, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that.

JiggeryPoverty · 07/11/2010 17:22

Write your phone number in the gusset and take them to a Tom Jones concert. Ping them at the stage.

nagynolonger · 07/11/2010 17:30

If they are well worn I burn them when DH has a bonfire. If they haven't been worn much I put them in a charity bag with other clothes.

emmy5 · 09/11/2010 18:36

If they're big bras there's a farm in Wiltshire that requests donations of old bras to support their melons whilst they're growing - it was on the bbc news recently. They're called Purton House Organics and are somewhere near Swindon:o

HazeltheMcWitch · 01/02/2013 00:34

OOh, are there idiots about? I have been reading about lovely lego. Nice and wholesome, so I've not noticed.

Greensleeves · 01/02/2013 00:37

aw that's lovely Grin

Startail · 01/02/2013 00:53

Sorry knickers go in the bin.

I'm happy to buy some cheap supermarket ones for the shelter, but the thought of some one sorting them even for rag- just no!

Knickers here only get scrapped when very grubby or in holes.

Oh, I am an idiot As you were...

Bunbaker · 01/02/2013 08:06

Please do NOT put them in the bin. They will only go to landfill. They can be recycled in so many ways - rag recycling or donations to charity.

I don't get why some of you are so iffy about them being sorted because they have no means of identifying you. Stop being so precious and Margo Leadbetter/Hyacinth Bouquet.

Syrupent · 01/02/2013 16:31

My aunt used to use them as dusters, then when they got too thin, as floorcloths!

VikingLady · 12/02/2013 16:16

If charity shops get clothes they can't use they sell them for rags/recycling, so you are still doing some good in the world!

Op, if you really can't face handing the bag over in a shop, either say a neighbour asked you to drop them in whilst you were in town, or take them to the next town over!

VerySmallSqueak · 12/02/2013 16:19

If they fit I wear until holey, then mend and wear some more Blush.

If they don't fit I keep if they're in a smaller size, and use as cloths for dirty jobs if a bigger size.

starsandunicorns · 12/02/2013 16:21

I use dp's old boxers as dusters

ouryve · 12/02/2013 16:22

I use them for cleaning stuff with. I tend to keep them until they're not fit for rag Blush so they at least get a couple of rounds of cleaning around the outside of windows where the mould starts in cold weather, scrubbing the bathroom floor or cleaning up puke before they end up in landfill.

Refuse collectors are a bit too busy to go snooping round your bin.

ouryve · 12/02/2013 16:23

And yes, most of my knickers are even older than this thread.

notso · 12/02/2013 16:36

I cannot believe you have two bin bags full of old underwear!
