bar mitzvah

I am a Catholic so obviously not used to this sort of thing, our family have been invited to DS1's close friends Bar Mitzvah.

What is a suitable present, I think money is usually given but what is the going rate, I don't want to appear mean (and i suspect it is a much bigger deal than the average 13 year old party) so any advice would be appreciated.

Wouldn't go for less than £40 - sorry.

Money is entirely appropriate, especially in multiples of 18, as that is considered lucky.

Thanks for that, at least I don't have to worry about an appropriate present. Looking forward to it now.
