Traveling to visit family but niece has been sick.....

Supposed to be going to my sisters this evening to spend the weekend there with her 2 DCs and my DCs. Her dd who is 8 was sick last night and 4 times overnight the last time being at 6am this morning. She's not been sick since then and has just eaten a small snack and had something to drink.

So - I'm in a dilema now about whether I should go up there or not and rick my lot and me getting sick as even if she is over it, will my sister and the rest of them picked it up. Or if she's OK now, would be OK?

Haven't seen them since April and this is a long planned trip. If we dont make it now its likely we won;t see them until Christmas but I also don't want to put my 2 DCs knowingly at risk.

We've decided to speak again at 3 to see if she's kept her lunch down but would welcome your thoughts - WWYD? go or not?

The children will be ridiculouly disappointed if we don't go - I know that for sure!

Apologies for all the typos by the way - typing quickly....

I wouldn't go. Even if your niece did keep her lunch down, she's probably still infectious. And other family members could well come down with it while you're there. If it's norovirus, I think the incubation period is 24 - 48 hours, so you and your family could fall ill while you are there, and either be stuck there, or have to travel with someone sick.

Can you tell I'm an emetophobe?

Thanks Butterbur

Shameless bump for some other views.....

We 'risked' an almost identical situation last autumn.

We were all very careful about hand washing etc but needless to say we all caught it begining with ds 3 hours after putting him to bed on our return on the Sunday night.

Two solid days of one of us vomiting followed.

Would never risk it again.

Any chance of going tomorrow morning?

HandbagAddiction · 08/10/2010 13:40

Probably not - it's a 3 hour drive, so a long way to go just for one night...not to mention boring in the car for 3 hours during day.

WTWTW - thanks - that's exactly what I'm concerned about.....

Such a dilema....
