Debated myself on where I should put it and decided it was better than AIBU.

Dh took the Dcs to the swimming pool last night. I went as well but my treat is a good book in the cafetaria with no interruptionGrin.

After just under an hour, I was watching through the window and saw that something "happened", DH and Dcs did come out of the pool and some pool staff were fishing things out with nets. Dh manages to sign to me that someone had a number 2 in the pool and that there are bits floating arround. He takes the DCs out and they all joined me. Now I am VERY surprised that he was actually the only one thinking "I am not going to stay and have a swim in that water with my Dcs". No one else left the pool at that time. On our way out he said to the manager that he was a bit surprised that they did not get everybody out (even for just a few minutes to make sure water was clean again) To which he was answered "the chemicals in the water kill everything!" (That might be so but it still is disgusting and the yuck factor was enough).

PS the "accident" was not from a member of my family, I do not think the "culprit" was found (or looked for).

Tell me would you have stayed in that water?

How exactly did he signal to you that there was a poo in the water? Grin

gorionine · 02/10/2010 09:51

I knew someone would ask!Grin He started by pretending to play football {My first language is French and he hoped I would recognise Kaka as caca(poo in French) but I did not get it so he spelt it in the windowSmile

I'm disappointed. I was hoping he squatted and made the straining face. Sad

NorbertDentressangle · 02/10/2010 09:58

This happened during one of DS's swimming lessons (it wasn't DS I hasten to add!)

The attendant said that the chemicals kill everything and it only becomes tricky "if its not a solid one".

If I'd been in the water I would have been out of there like a shot!

gorionine · 02/10/2010 09:59

Sorry to desapoint!Smile
That does not answer my question though, would you have carried on swimming regardless? Be honest I can take it!Smile

Thank you Norbert because the swiming pool staff made him feel like a freak. There was a discussion after the incident and it made us decide to not use that swimmingpool again.

DH asked if there was a possibility of comming again for an hour with a lesser charge (commercial gesture) as their swimming session was cut short and they fobbed him off saying that "Fri and week end, they usually only let children swimm for 1 hour anyway so he had no reason to complain" There is absolutely nowhere on the price list that states that children are only allowed one hour swim (full charging price, like any other day) and the lady at the entrance certainly did not mention anything of the sort either.

There is no way I would have stayed in the water and could never bring myself to swim in that pool again.

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2010 12:50

no, and in fact I would have wanted to know the pool had been drained before going in again
Which I know is stupid, but it's one thing to suspect there's poo in the water, it's another thing to know because you saw it bobbing around

catherinewho · 02/10/2010 12:58

I wouldn't have been able to get back in even though I know that the chemicals would kill anything.

Funny really that even though everyone knows people wee in swimming pools that doesn't seem to bother them as much as a poo because you can't see it lol.

BuzzingNoise · 02/10/2010 13:00

I honestly don't know what I would have done but the chemicals would have killed any germs. The idea of sweat in the pool disgusts me more!

bluecheesedip · 02/10/2010 13:07

I wouldn't have cared that the chemicals 'cleaned' the poo - it's still poo!!! No, I wouldn't have stayed in >boak

StealthPolarBear · 02/10/2010 13:08

What if a bit floated onto your face?

TechLovingDad · 02/10/2010 13:09

If the chemicals kill the germs, couldn't the kids use the poo as a float?

Mumi · 02/10/2010 14:14

PMSL at the football signal Grin

DurhamDurham · 02/10/2010 14:17

I would have got out so fast that everyone would assume I was the culprit!

thumbwitch · 02/10/2010 14:18

I'd have been out of there like a rocket. Regardless of the chemicals. Doesn't get rid of all the little bits that break off and are floating around in the water still.

If I saw poo in the ocean I'd be out of it like a rocket and not go back in that day - regardless of the general insanity of that and knowing that tons of sewage gets pumped into the ocean on a daily basis.

gorionine · 02/10/2010 14:22

So it is all the othersthat stayed in that are a bit strange then.

TLD I have not seen the "bits" myself but I sure hope they were not big enough to be used as floats.Grin

DurhamDurham, if I'm right in my assumption as to where you live :o hve you seen our meetup thread?

ValiumSingleton · 02/10/2010 18:28

oooo gross.

I'm going to revolt you all now, but when I was gulet cruising in Turkey many years ago I tried to do a poo in the sea and it is SO hard. I just don't understand it. So I'm fascinated, curious and appalled.

(The toilet on the gulet was shared by 8 people, 6 of them men. You can imagine).

I was permanently deterred from a particular pool when my DS (18mths at the time) vommed in the toddler pool.

All the staff did was catch all the flotsam and jetsam with a giant fishing net type jobbie. We were leaving, fast, at this point, but were becoming increasingly like Shock as they were sweeping the cafe floor's sweepings into the pool!

Conversely, we once stayed at a Park Camps site and pools were permanently being emptied, drained, cleaned, refilled and re-chemmed. In fact, they buzzed yo ass if you trumped!!!
