I think the thought of going through a pregnancy, birth and new baby on your own, makes many women forgive things they would otherwise never countenance, even from a bloke who is a shelf-stacker.
That is why 75% of all domestic violence attacks happen either during pregnancy or within a year of the first baby's birth - because men know, at a very instinctive level, that a woman is more emotionally vulnerable and likely to feel that she needs her partner, the father of her child, at that time.
And of course the social messages that a baby needs its father, however crap the father is, which are constantly rammed home, does influence women. My xp first displayed signs of emotional abuse when I was pregnant with my first child. It was a massive shock and I knew that if I hadn't been pregnant, I would have thrown him out. But I was pregnant, for christ's sake, with his child. I had a job, a good one, and he was a flaky freelancer with very little money coming in. I didn't need him financially - in fact, he was a drain - but emotionally, I really really felt that I needed the father of my child to be there. Evne though he was shit.
All I'm saying, is that slebs don't grow up in a culture different to the rest of us. They are as vulnerable to the psychological messages as we all are. I'm sure the diamonds influenced her; but I really hate this horrible, cynical, dehumanising attitude on here that slebs are somehow completely different from the rest of us, with a different version of humanity. They're neither better nor worse than any of us. They're just better known.
