DD wants Red Devil energy drink for her party

She will be 14 and has had some before at a sleepover (not much sleep had I suspect!). I've never had one, but I know they're very high in caffeine. I don't really have a problem with her having one on her birthday, but would you be annoyed if your 14 year old had been given one of these? Any thoughts much appreciated.

By 14 they are old enough to go to the shop and buy such crap anyway.

Yes I suppose they are, but I was really wondering whether I'd be flamed by other parents for doing this. Anyone?

Dd is not allowed red bull (in that I won't have it in teh house and I wouldn't buy it) but to be honest I can't police what she spends her money on, and i wouldn't be upset if she drank it at a friend's house.

I think red bull is pretty shitty stuff tbh, but I would be pissing against the wind trying to control what a teenager drinks.

Unless it is alcohol of course.

Ds1(13) is not allowed red bull etc at home, but I know he buys them when he is out- I wouldn't mind if he had been given one at a party .

Why does a child need an bloody energy drink anyway??? Wait til she is my age then she will need one"

Flamesparrow · 23/07/2010 17:42

Yup sorry, my meaning was that I would think by that age my child could buy it themselves so wouldn't care if they drank it at your house.

Obviously I am speaking as a mother with children all 7 and under

Thanks everyone. I hate the idea of those sort of drinks too, but at 14 you can't say no to everything or you're asking for trouble (remembers own teenager years .... ). I think I'll get enough for 1 each for them and then plenty of lemonade etc. 8 14 year olds for an afternoon - wish me luck!
