Nap time

I look after my niece who has just turned three, four days a week. I don't get any money for this. Every afternoon she has a nap from 1-3, she always goes up to her room, sometimes she asks to go up and other times she will go up read for an hour then want to come down but more often than not she goes to sleep. My sister in law however has started moaning and complaining that she is sleeping in the day and that it is making her wake early (she still wakes up early when she hasn't slept) I think she still needs the sleep as when she gets tired (the days she goes to her grandma's she doesn't sleep) she is horrible. My sister in law has her awake for one whole day on a sunday. I never force her to sleep but she seems to need it. If she didn't sleep on her own accord I wouldn't mind by my sister-in-law isn't the one who has her every day. I have an evening job and her nap time is currently the only free time I have. Should I still give her a nap even though she objects?

Maybe as a compromise you could shorten the nap to an hour? I can see both sides, you are the main carer (and doing your SIL a very good turn) so its up to you, but if it really is playing havoc with bedtimes then its difficult. At least your SIL will see you making the effort and stop complaining if it doesn't have any effect after a week or so?

Should say my DD is almost 3, can be hideous when she is tired but often a half hour catnap is enough to take the edge off (if she sleeps longer it can be 10pm before sleep - too late for me )

I will maybe shorten her nap then and see how that goes. Hopefully SIL will see I am trying to compromise and she will do the same.
