I'm going to start adding a few items per week to my weekly shop to hide from the kids/stash away for the festive period Grin

What do you like to have in? I'll order some nuts and Pringles, and maybe some brandy baskets. But I'm mostly drawing a blank!

Bendicks mints but only get them when they are on sale

Have some vac packed chestnuts in as use in several recipes

Will look out for medjool dates, the stuffed ones they had in Lidl or Aldi last year were so good

Cheeses in wax, crackers

MsSquiz · 27/09/2020 14:13

Twilight chocolate mints - on the rare occasion I can find them
Torres truffle crisps
Homemade sausage meat stuffing made by my uncle
Decent hot chocolate and squirty cream
A box of fancy biscuits from Fortnum & Mason

DH has Boxing Day relish and mango chutney - I think they're from Fortnum & Mason
He also gets Heston's mince pies from waitrose

BiddyPop · 27/09/2020 14:18

I like a handful of amaretti biscuits (neither DH nor dd like them).

A large bag of Leonidas orangettes (we don’t tend to get the tins of quality street or similar).

Mince pies.

I buy fizzy drinks as multipacks of cans, so we have more choice and no bottles going flat because no one wants to finish it. But I do buy bottles of tonic for a change (we tend to use cans during the year as we don’t make G&T so often).

Every other year I would say proper ground coffee as we don’t usually use a lot except holidays (including Christmas), but as we’re WFH just now, we are drinking loads so it’s a regular purchase rTher than Christmas treat.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 27/09/2020 14:18

Twiglets, posh crisps for guests, nice fizzy drinks, wine, fancy biscuits and crackers for cheese. Pickles, plain Christmas cake that I feed myself.

I admire your willpower.

I can’t even read the list of other people’s suggestions, lest I buy now and devour.

I will be buying lots of Tesco ready-made mulled wine when I see it. I know it’s not a patch on homemade, but I can’t drink more than 1 small glass per day and I’m the only one who drinks it, so not worth it just for me.

thelegohooverer · 27/09/2020 14:45

Baileys.
Aldi’s florentines
Selection of cheese with quince jelly and whin jelly
Pickles - silverskin onions, cornichons and olives (no idea why I associate these with Christmas but I do)
Pate en croute
Chinese pancakes and hoisin for the left over turkey
Kettle crisps
Quality street
Mixed nuts
Chocolate Kimberley.
Traditional danish butter biscuits.

1forAll74 · 27/09/2020 14:50

Nothing particular food wise, I live alone and usually have a quiet Christmas. I don't drink much, but for some reason I always get a bottle of Baileys, bottle of Port, Sherry, and Brandy at Christmas !!

I have to low carb (very low) to control my diabetes, but at Christmas I have a wee break from it & look forward to the following (but only in small quantities these days, sadly)

Baileys thick cream
Baileys (with Ice & in coffee)
Mulled wine
Twiglets
Cheese & crackers
Crisps & dip
Mince pies (heated)
Amaretti biscuits (Costco)
Terry's chocolate orange
Stollen
Mini gingerbread men for with coffee
Mini Christmas Cake

Something(s) vegetarian & 'different' for meals Roast potatoes, Yorkshire

I'm fine with anything unopened in the house, but once it's open I need to give it away or I feel like it's a waste if I don't eat it.

Quality Street - more to look at than anything. They've ruined most of the chocolates these days, but a glass bowl of them catching the Christmas lights IS Christmas in a bowl.

Then after a few days, leftovers get packed up and delivered to a friend so I don't finish everything up & if I eat like that for too long I end up staying off the wagon! Definitely cannot do that this year!

I'm fine with anything unopened in the house, but once it's open I need to give it away or I feel like it's a waste if I don't eat it.

How many weeks to wait?

EternalOptimist7 · 27/09/2020 16:27

Lovely thread!
Always smoked salmon as I often have creamcheese & smoked salmon bagels for Christmas Day breakfast
Posh chocolates
Lots of cheeses as DH & DD in particular love cheese
Selection of crackers for said cheese
Really good mince pies
Champagne ( I’m trying to quit drinking but it doesn’t seem to be working!) & better wines than everyday
Butchers pork pie
Homemade sausage rolls
Hellman’s mayonnaise
Chutney from a really great online company that I found through Good Housekeeping. The jams & marmalades rock too!
Maybe Christmas cake but nobody’s a big fan of fruitcake. I do like DM’s Dundee cake though
Posh biscuits
If I am still drinking I might treat myself to a bottle of Southern Comfort
Boxed Turkish Delight
Jelly Belly Jellybeans
