I'm going to start adding a few items per week to my weekly shop to hide from the kids/stash away for the festive period Grin

What do you like to have in? I'll order some nuts and Pringles, and maybe some brandy baskets. But I'm mostly drawing a blank!

Sprouts. I'll get them nearer the time.

monkeyonthetable · 27/09/2020 16:31

No, no @MikeUniformMike - you need to put them on to boil by the 1st October, in good old English cooking tradition.

Food is a fairly big deal for us anyway, but over Christmas, we really do indulge and try to buy the best quality we can. We have a 24 bottle case of wine delivered by Laithwaites who we have a wine plan with. We'll usually add a quality port, whiskey and champagne. We buy a seafood platter from the local fish Quay to pick at as part of our Christmas Eve dinner. Countless tubs of chocolate, cakes and mince pies will be stashed in my Christmas food cupboard. We usually stock up on pate, different chutney and a variety of cheeses. Over the past couple of years I've bought big tubs of M&S festival coleslaw, cous cous and salads which last a few days and are always popular. Lastly, we always cook a huge Gammon joint on boxing day and cook it in brown sugar and cloves. Delicious. X

I have to ask, I am confused how you could 'draw a blank' when trying to come up with nice things to eat?

Lalanbaba · 27/09/2020 17:01

Chocolate baileys (the one in the golden bottle) lasts about 10 minutes in this house
Nice Spanish hot chocolate
After eights
Homemade mince pies
Torres ibérico crisps
Good cheese selection with nice crackers
Pandoro
Fresh chestnuts that we roast in the fire
Homemade sausage rolls
Basically all the chocolate and all the booze

LindaEllen · 27/09/2020 17:02

Cheese, chutney, pickled onions, pork pies, nice crisps .. basically I'm not satisfied unless I'm able to have several buffets over Christmas!

NancyBotwinBloom · 27/09/2020 17:03

@MsSquiz

Where do you get truffle crisps from!

SecretWitch · 27/09/2020 17:07

Brie and nice crackers

Lobster for Christmas Eve morning omelettes

Chocolate cheesecake

Nice chocolates

monkeyonthetable · 27/09/2020 17:08

@NancyBotwinBloom Tyrells do truffle crisps - Waitrose sells them (of course Grin)

NancyBotwinBloom · 27/09/2020 17:38

I love truffle. I have truffle oil, honey truffle, truffle chips till Iceland stopped doing them. Can't wait to get some crisps.

BrowncoatWaffles · 27/09/2020 17:41

Dark chocolate and ginger florentines
Pickled walnuts for the cheese board
Baileys (it’s usually £20 and they reduce it to £12 in readiness)

SingingWaffleDoggy · 27/09/2020 17:47

Toffifee and matchsticks. Yummy!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 27/09/2020 17:48
@thelegohooverer

chinese panckes and hoisin sauce for the leftover turkey

Why have I never thought of doing that???? Genius idea.
Genius!! Can you buy Chinese pancakes in regular supermarkets? I'm avoiding our city centre where the Chinese supermarkets are.

MorayPlace · 27/09/2020 18:01

Cumberland sauce to go with pate. Not Christmas without it. I used to also eat it with a Morrison's cream cheese with raspberry and almond but they discontinued that☹️)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/09/2020 18:03

*Rocking( I've bought the Chinese pancakes in Asda last week and Waitrose previously .
Sainsbury sometimes but it isn't with the rice/spring rolls in our one , it's round by the duck

ShrimpSymphony · 27/09/2020 18:05

San Pellegrino Lemon and After Eights. I know both are available year round but they are Christmas treats to me

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/09/2020 18:12

This year my plan (if it all goes to plan) Xmas Hmm

Aldi- dark chocolate ginger biscuits
M&S - tin of shortbread
Sainsbury somerset brie (whole one) to bake ( not put in the fridge it stinks it out )
Clementine juice ( asda or Waitrose )
Neiderregger dark chocolate marzipan

I will make soups ( vegetable . lentil)
Meat the Alternative mince for lasagne ( I always like to have one made up in the freezer )
Savoury crackers - I'm sure M&S did some black olive ones which were delicious
Wendsleydale to eat with Christmas cake

I love Stolen but I haven't found one that I like in shops
Sainsbury bakery mince pies are lush

I8toys · 27/09/2020 18:12

I've added after eights, oreo white chocolate, mint matchmakers, terrys chocolate oranges and cashew nuts to this week's shop.

Frozen Danish pastries next week and nice vanilla ice cream.

Bickles · 27/09/2020 18:13

Cheeseboard and biscuits
Stand pie
Party food selections like breaded cheese filled jalapeños
Smoked salmon
A ginger ale ham
Ice cream Christmas pudding
Dessert wine
Mince pies with brandy cream

MsSquiz · 27/09/2020 18:54

@NancyBotwinBloom we get them from Selfridges or Harvey Nichols. The brand is Torres and they do ham, paprika, olive oil & caviar flavours, something like £4 a bag so we get them for birthdays and christmases Grin

🙄

I can think of lots of nice things to eat, that we do eat. I was hoping for suggestions of things I don't usually/wouldn't think to buy so they feel more of a treat.

Love some of these suggestions - making a list on my phone of what would appeal to us and going to start adding a couple to my shopping every week Grin
