I’ve worked as a royal journalist for over 20 years, writing for tabloids, magazines and online publications. Most of my work has been focused on the British royal family, although I’ve covered other royal families too.

My work has involved writing blogs, news stories, background pieces and occasionally expert opinions. Some of the things I’ve written have been controversial, and some stories have obviously been more sensitive than others.

Over the years, I’ve come across information before it became public. Sometimes it came through people working around the royals, sometimes through other journalists or photographers, and sometimes through sources who wanted to remain anonymous. And yes, there are things I know that will probably never become public.

One of the moments I’m proudest of happened around 2012.

I was working at a magazine when a paparazzo approached us claiming to have topless sunbathing photographs of Catherine, Princess of Wales, who was Kate Middleton at the time. Initially, I thought he might be bluffing, but he showed us the photographs.

The magazine was interested in publishing them, but I strongly objected. I felt it was a serious invasion of her privacy, and I didn’t think publishing private photographs like that was justified. I argued against it, and ultimately the magazine didn’t publish them.

Another publication eventually did, and the consequences were significant, including a substantial fine.

Looking back, I’m still glad I stood my ground. It wasn’t just about protecting someone who would one day become queen. It was about what I believed journalism should and shouldn’t do.

That’s just one story from a very long career. I’ve covered royal scandals, palace rumours, media controversies, private briefings, leaks and plenty of things that never made it into print.

So, AMA. I’ll answer what I can without identifying private sources or sharing information that was given to me in confidence.

What really happened between Kate and Meghan?

ooh good one!

BillieWiper · 16/09/2026 12:44

How many British Royals have been to rehab? And how many have been multiple times?
How many do you think need to go there?

KatherineParr · 16/09/2026 12:46

What's the most interesting thing you've found out about a European royal family?

SweatyGibbon · 16/09/2026 12:53

How do the royals feel about the ordinary citizens of this country, particularly republicans?

SunsetDrifter · 16/09/2026 13:34

I saw those topless photos of Kate middleton years ago, a magazine in another country published them, they are still on google, I'm not sure how you "protected" her? You probably saved someone lots of money in fines though.

This AMA is completely pointless as you aren't going to actually answer anything, you are yet to reply to a single question!

Notsosweetcaroline · 16/09/2026 13:42

What’s the point in an ama when the op doesn’t bother answering anything,

Morecoffeeneedef · 16/09/2026 13:46

Are you going to answer any of these questions or are you just hoping to find out what questions the public wants answered in order to sell some articles?

gmgnts · 16/09/2026 13:48

Oh come on, OP, it's really not on to run a juicy AMA and then disappear! It's now 3 and a half hours since you posted.

JeanSimmons · 16/09/2026 14:03

Messedupmyusernameagain · 16/09/2026 12:44

ooh good one!

As if the OP is going to answer that. Do use some sense!

Cotopaxi · 16/09/2026 14:04

@kkfyuh How difficult is it to write articles without allowing your personal opinion of the individuals to affect your work?

DisforDarkChocolate · 16/09/2026 14:12

I don't think @kkfyuh is going to answer anything. Probably just getting inspiration for their next article.

AnneKipankitoo · 16/09/2026 14:19

Is your name Meghan or Catherine?

ProfessorofDarkArts · 16/09/2026 14:25

Are you in H&M’s WhatsApp group?

CeciliaMars · 16/09/2026 14:34

Are you ever going to reply would be my question

Sidebeforeself · 16/09/2026 14:54

IF the OP does ever come back it will be “Gosh I didnt expect so many questions!” And then cherry picking one or two to answer , possibly even with “Sorry, I dont know how to reply to individuals?”

Plus “you’ll understand that I can’t say anything specific or interesting”

SereneFinch · 16/09/2026 14:57

Do you ever verify the truth of a story e.g cross-checking against several sources or do just print it, knowing they’re unlikely to sue and you can therefore get away with printing rumours and speculation as if it were fact?

notanothernamesurely · 16/09/2026 15:13

How do you feel about the way Meghan is villainised by the press?

Kate and Meghan can do exactly the same thing and the story told is extremely different. It’s gone on so long that many members of the public hate Meghan and love Kate despite only ever known what they are shown through the media.

Bogstandardname · 16/09/2026 15:23

This feels like a glaring error for an actual royal journalist. The topless photo scandal in 2012 happened after Kate and William were already married for vear a year and she was already the Duchess of Cambridge.

Who’s the most compelling/attractive/lcharismatic royal when you meet them in person ?

Yes, and the story of the pap approaching the magazine like that? That's not what happened, according to reports.
