I know two families who emigrated from the UK about 20 years ago when their children were younger. Bothe families struggled with homesickness for a long time because of the distance. As an Aussie born, do you feel you feel you are a long way away from everywhere else?

Actually I was born in the UK and came out as a young child. It took me a very long time to accept the differences, such as a BBQ at Christmas versus cold and salvation army band playing. Now though, I have a real appreciation for the difference.

Australia and the lifestyle has always fascinated me and I wish I had saved up and gone for a holiday as a youngster (maybe fell in love with an Aussie surfer and stayed)😆
Its 0720 hours in the UK, wet and miserable and I'm singing the Neighbours theme tune 🤣🤣

That seems very personal. Are you happy with every aspect of your home life?

Ok. Sometimes my husband is annoying. I wish my house was tidier. That answer your question?

My defensive response, as you call it, doesn't tell you any detail about my home life, which is what you're asking for details of

Do you have any family still in the UK and have you been back since you left as a child?

CrissCrossCrow · 19/08/2026 08:46

What do you think of your former PM Julia Gillard and her sneak-through of the ‘self ID’ policy (that we rejected in the UK)?

MoneyFunny · 19/08/2026 08:49

Are Australians sick of U.K. nationals moving to Australia? A lot of my peers moved to ‘live the dream’ and I wonder about the attitude to expats?

Do a lot of Australians think about native populations/engage with native populations at any time in their lives or is it very separate?

I do have quite an extended family. I've only been back once. I'd love to have the time to go more.

Is it true that Koala bears can be aggressive little fuckers?

G’Day.

Silverbirchleaf · 19/08/2026 08:56

On the ‘I’ve moved to Australia’ blogs I get on instragram, the first thing featured are the beaches. Are most people within walking distance if a beach, or go you still have to drive there? Do people go for a walk, swim, surf etc everyday?

About life here? The fact that getting a first step into home ownership is so hard for young people. Mainly the rise of far right populist politics and the racism that comes with it

It seems that Oz is trending again as somewhere for Brits to move to. Like a PP I wondered how that impacts existing communities over there.
I get the sense it creates opportunities rather than “taking our jobs” given the lack of population but is that the perception there?

Whats the earliest it gets dark in winter where you are !

ParsleySageToiletDuckAndBinBags · 19/08/2026 09:08

Are the Aussie soaps true to real life, in which there's a school uniform for girls but none for boys? If so, is this just routinely accepted as normal?

lechatnoir · 19/08/2026 09:09

Are Australian men as racist & misogynistic as many people perceive them to be? (Obvs realise not everyone is, but in the main…)

Dontcallmescarface · 19/08/2026 09:11

Could you ship over some Black Forest "timmys" and a couple of jars of vegemite and cream cheese spread please? I really miss those.
