Ask me anything.

Health is true wealth

thatsthatsaidthemayor · 07/03/2026 02:08

No such thing as rich as a noun it’s an adjective. Richer. You are saying I’m richer than you. You’re not.

BeanQuisine · 07/03/2026 02:10

Do you regard yourself as highly intelligent, thick as mince, or somewhere in between?

Have you been to paradise, and if so, have you ever been to you?

Do you see yourself living on Mars one day?

localnotail · 07/03/2026 02:59

Agree - in my area of London, 2mln home is normal family house.

My cousin is married to a company director who earns around 6-7k a week from his business. They are very wealthy but not "rich" compared to really rich people.

Same where I am.
We have a small mortgage still but on a 3.5m home which is the norm where we are.
Cheaper areas are 1.5-2m.
But that doesn't fit her look at me narrative.

MissApplejack · 07/03/2026 03:53

Not sure if you answered

how did DH get into property development

does he have a trade

wandawaves · 07/03/2026 04:06

What do you do with all your money every month? Considering you are mortgage free, having only 170k in the bank seems really low. Or is that your "spendings" account? Have you got lots saved for retirement? Is your husband planning on retiring early? What are your "savings" for anyway? Another property? Something else?
Will you purchase homes for your kids?
What is in your 8 bedrooms?
Do you think your Irish wolfhound would get along with a goat? If yes, do it! I've always wanted a goat too.

Wow, nasty!

watchingthishtread · 07/03/2026 04:40

I call bullshit. 600k is not private jet territory. You jumped the shark with that one.

They can afford a private jet to their Butlin's chalet, but they prefer to hitchhike - you meet so many interesting people that way.

why would anyone give a shiny shit about a 'rich housewife'? It's like posting 'I'm a filing clerk ask me anything.'

For someone who doesn't give a shiny shit you've taken the time to post that? You clearly have way too much time on your hands. Maybe you could consider taking in some ironing? And what's boring about a filing clerk?

CeciliaMars · 07/03/2026 05:57

Aren’t you bored? I love my job. If I won the lottery, I’d still work, maybe a bit less than I do now.

Eufyon · 07/03/2026 06:11

Iho · 06/03/2026 20:59

Because we have come from working class families and we didn't want children that can't relate to working class kids.

If I didn’t think the Chanel perfume clanger was a give away, this response nails it 😀

PinterandPirandello · 07/03/2026 06:12

I wouldn’t say all of the negative posts are due to jealousy. This doesn’t sound like a life that I or many of my educated friends would aspire to but can see that this life would be an attractive option for a lot of women.

OP you say you don’t have a separate pension in your name. It might be worth prioritising that going forward particularly as it sounds like your husband has the finances to fund one for you.

Eufyon · 07/03/2026 06:15

Iho · 06/03/2026 21:59

We could afford to fly on private jets. We don't.
As in direct debits? No.
Nice food. The house. Plants. I like shoes and bags.
No. I don't really have a jewellery collection. I have my engagement ring, wedding band, eternity ring, a nice bracelet and necklace and some diamond earrings. Maybe worth £150k.
No, I'm size a size 12 brunette. I am white.
I don't feel a power imbalance.

as if £600k income is enough for private jets?

Honestly, I’m in a three bedroom semi in outskirts of London and it’s valued at £895k, my children are privately educated and our holiday is more than £10k.

The issue is… OP started a thread about actually a very modest lifestyle in a modest high income. I know that it doesn’t seem like that for many, but for many many of us (especially in London and the SE) this is absolutely nothing special and the idea that the Op says she can afford private jets is quite frankly… farcical!

and the very notion the op thinks her children and grandchildren will be “set up for life” … no, just no, no chance!

Comfortable8520 · 07/03/2026 06:31

OP 2 questions:

Have you ever enjoyed intellectual work? This is the reason I am enjoying my work so much. I also see my DC wanting an intellectual challenge, so can't imagine them not working. I sometimes have very wealthy clients (much more wealth than yours) whose wifes don't usually work and it's hard to deal with them because they are so behind on development and life skills (in comparison with thier working husbands).

And the second question - if you had a daughter, who would you want her to be? What life would you want her to have? Would you challenge her to get a profession and if so, what sort of?

Butterknife · 07/03/2026 06:57

The reactions to the OP are the most interesting bits of this thread. Claws are out in full and I can't decide whether it's jealousy, a classist mentality, intellectual snobbery or just plain old nastiness. Whatever it is that's coming out in some posters - it's not classy - just saying.😉

Edited

I don’t know why you’re obsessing over your own house price. It doesn’t sound at all like you bought it without a mortgage so I’m not sure why you think it’s relevant?
600k is still not a low salary even in London, you’re just sounding so desperate right now.
OP never claimed to be the richest woman in the world.

ThatSourGobstopper · 07/03/2026 07:04

Do you watch ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County / Beverly Hills’ Is your life anything like theirs?

chickenpotnoodle · 07/03/2026 07:12

You are very lucky to be in that position OP, perhaps not everyone will be happy to see this when on benefits, in debt, in a rented house with no possibility of owning, facing another cost of living crisis.
I'd ask - what one thing about being in your position truly makes you happy ?

gdlyig · 07/03/2026 07:21

Iho · 06/03/2026 20:24

I think the fact they will leave uni without debt is an incredible advantage.

Leaving Uni without debt is a huge benefit. I still remember the crushing feeling of owing tens of thousands from doing something supposedly good.

Please can I also ask ways your children benefited when they were younger - time to take them to activities, have friends over, etc?

Not being rude to the OP, but I think those series are about the very rich!

FallenNight · 07/03/2026 07:42

I don't understand, half the threads on here posters get slammed for struggling on incomes of 80k a year because they are rich, top x% or whatever. Someone on £600k claims they are happy and rich and they get slammed for claiming they are rich on only half a million a year. Presumably on that op has chosen a house she solves rather that the most expensive she can afford. A holiday house on the IOW is chosen for fun not to keep up or demonstrate wealth as on that income with that sized un-mortgaged house she could afford more.
To me Op sounds quite grounded and feels rich living within her means and crucially content not chasing more. That gives you happiness.

Op my question - what do you splurge on, we all have something that we buy that's totally unnecessary but a treat when we have a bit of spare cash. Mine is craft equipment.

LadyVioletBridgerton · 07/03/2026 07:42

Nah, you’re just a bored fantasist on benefits or minimum wage. Don’t believe you.
