I am highly intelligent, ask me anything

Using standard IQ scales/assessments I am highly intelligent. I have also done some research into high intelligence. Being highly intelligent has advantages and drawbacks. Ask me anything :-)

(Just to preempt some comments: No, I don’t think intelligent people are better human beings than other people. I think qualities such as being kind are more important for example. No, intelligent people are not always ‘better for society’, there is some evidence, for example, that really highly intelligent people carry out proportionally somewhat more crimes (white collar). No, I don’t look down on less intelligent people (sometimes I envy them), but it can obviously be a bit difficult to connect if you have very different frames of reference. No, intelligence does not have any direct links to social skills (positive or negative).)

How often do you encounter people who are more intelligent than you? How do you find it?

Probably often? I don't know. I love to be challenged so if I connect with someone who can really teach me things/make me see things in a new way, that's great!

I too am intelligent, scored high on IQ tests throughout school (went to school abroad). I'm also ND.

Do you find you need to dumb yourself down out of embarrassment because of how you were perceived at school?

Westfacing · 22/02/2026 10:12

Are you in the UK?

Do you have a romantic partner?

MonstrousRegimentRocks · 22/02/2026 10:12

Indianajet · 22/02/2026 09:55

I have often debated that with my sons!

I'm going to say the top, because it looks smarter, but perhaps when they're eating, the bottom.

Nothing2CHere · 22/02/2026 10:12

Can you tell straight away if someone is not on the same level or can people fake it for a while before they are found out?

crowsfleet · 22/02/2026 10:12

How much do you earn 😁

Squirrelchops1 · 22/02/2026 10:12

I asked about your level of emotional intelligence but you've jumped over it and answered others.

Hiptothisjive · 22/02/2026 10:13

Isit2026yet · 22/02/2026 09:17

This. I'm in your club 😀.

Totally the same. I think OP you may be the exception not the rule.

SwimBikeRunBake · 22/02/2026 10:13

Do you play in any team sports?

Do you play board games or role playing games, if so which are your favourite ones?

Do you prefer to read fiction or non fiction? What is the last book you read?

Do you listen to any R4 podcasts, if so which is your favourite one?

champagnetrial · 22/02/2026 10:13

Can you hang wallpaper?

Ok, what I want to ask you is why on earth you started this thread?

I am a member of Mensa so I'm highly intelligent too.

I would not ever think of starting a thread about this.

I'd love to know why you have.

loislovesstewie · 22/02/2026 10:14

What is the meaning of life?

nolinkname · 22/02/2026 10:14

dragonfruit8 · 22/02/2026 10:04

I have a MENSA level IQ. I used to take pride in it when I was young and thought it meant something. I went to university in my mid-teens. Now I know you can train yourself to do better in IQ tests and that some people have huge IQs but just don't do well in tests. I also know that autistic people tend to have spiky profiles across the areas so, while you can give them an average, it doesn't really mean anything if one area is 150 and another is 110. IQ is BS.

Edited

I am on the fence. I think current trends eg in education that 'we just need to measure children's IQ and provide for them based on that' are worrying since one test result is just one test result. The UK education system has based too much on such ideas. However I do still think that they can indicate some ability/potential (though I don't like the increased use of 'potential' either, as if some people don't have any).

My first thought seeing this thread, it's not that intelligent starting a thread claiming to be highly intelligent...just a thought. Let's see how this goes!!

Edited

You are free to have any thoughts! I hope you are happy with your thoughts, that is the most important thing.

Do you genuinely think that's the "current trend" in education? Seriously?

DelinquentSnails · 22/02/2026 10:15

To what extent do you believe being highly intelligent and having a high IQ are the same thing?

I’m asking as someone with professional experience who struggles with the construct and content validity of that assumption, but would be interested to hear from someone with lived experience.

Notmyreality · 22/02/2026 10:16

Anyone else reading OP responses

Goonyoucanaskme · 22/02/2026 10:16

nolinkname · 22/02/2026 09:53

Yes, it was an official Mensa test in my second language, so I'd arguably have had an even higher score if I had understood all words ;-)

You are free to think whatever you want about me and anyone else writing here. It is not my life aim to come across as intelligent, rather the opposite probably, since it often leads to so much anger/annoyance and so many misunderstandings if I am myself completely.

If you really want feedback, this statement comes over as arrogant. That could be what is leading to the arguments, not the intelligence. I love chatting with my swift-thinking friends who have numerous degrees, but I am not enjoying this conversation . And not one of these friends has ever described herself as particularly intelligent.

Was about to ask this too!

Have you any common sense. I've met many intelligent people over the years. Specialists and degrees etc coming out the ears but their apparent ability to manage on the same plane as us mere mortals is non existent.

Some people can struggle to connect with others. I think I have as much common sense as the average person, at least. I am generally liked and am often asked to help out and contribute to various things.

On an AMA asking the giraffe/tie question is usually a light-hearted way of seeing how someone engages socially. Calling it pointless comes across as dismissive, which slightly undercuts the point about not looking down on others.

I’d like you to answer the Only Connect question - how quickly do you complete the wall?

Oh I get it now- but on first glance it could mean anything like so many things on the internet. I can see why one might not immediately respond, intelligent or not.
Clearly it should be worn around the bottom of the Giraffes neck. The tie is not located directly under ones chin. It sits just above the shoulders and the knot is on the upper chest.
How annoying would it be for the giraffe to have it flapping in her face.

No, I'm hearing it in the voice of Lucy Beaumont, for some reason.
Although I don't know if this person is a woman.

Yes, that is kind of what I mean with feeling a need to constrain yourself!

Freeasabreeze · 22/02/2026 10:18

Are you happy with your life? Is anything missing which, deep down you crave?

Is being 'gifted' with a high IQ a blessing or a curse and if you could swap your high intellect with something else, what would it be?

DustyMaiden · 22/02/2026 10:18

Indianajet · 22/02/2026 09:55

I have often debated that with my sons!

Surely at the bottom, it will stay in place better and not get caught the trees. Probably look better if they wear a collar too. Ultimately though it’s the Giraffes decision.
