Off the back of another thread I realised am ridiculously organised and my house is always tidy, always ready for visitors etc didn’t realise how tidy I was until I started commenting on and reading the other thread. So just a fun, or nosy AMA.
maybe there’s nothing to ask 🤣 thought it might be interesting though…

That's 28 pairs of pants, 56 socks, at least half a dozen bottoms, a few bras, 20+ tops, 4+ bath towels, hand towels, tea towels, coats/hats etc, bedding, blankets/throws etc

But it's summer! No one has been wearing socks in my house for weeks.

I don't have weekly blankets or throws to wash.

Even in winter I don't wash my coat or hat weekly, I hardly ever need a hat & don't use my coat much as I drive to work.

I also don't need to wash everything to have it ready again for the next week. We all have more than 7 pairs of pants...

I never knew how bonkers people were when it comes to washing!

Ok, take away some of the socks... It's still too much to fit in to 2 loads!

One load is bedding, and maybe a towel or two.

There's still presumably at least 2 more towels to wash, as well as absolutely everything else...in one load?

Off topic here I know, but how can you be a size ten? I’m 5 foot 8 and weigh 9 stone 3lb and I’m a size 10!
Clothes sizes are so confusing!

At 5'6 and 9 stone 3 you are only just in the healthy weight range and I would expect you to be a size 8 or even a size 6.

I'm 5'6 and about 10 stone and usually wear a size 8.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/08/2025 11:28

I use a big plastic box for medications/vitamins. I don't have a cabinet or drawer available. The only way I've found so far to group them is with see-through plastic bags, e.g. one for paracetamol, one for decongestants. Can you help me find a better way?

CelestialCandyfloss · 30/08/2025 11:29

I think decluttering is definitely the key to being neat and tidy. I've been trying to declutter over the last few years but I struggle to get rid of clothes. And I agree with your method of doing things as you go along...I read a book by a Danish lady and she said there was a thing called close the circle, so you are keeping things neat as you go. I hope your kids stay tidy...I only have one she's a teenager now and oh my god some days her room is a bombsite (other days pristine...go figure?! )

NeedATreat · 30/08/2025 11:30

I’m 5’8” and 10 stone on the nose, and I’m also a 10 (I do have loose skin on my tummy, arms and legs though, which obviously adds ti my weight but at the same time the skin folds on my arms and legs don’t add much to my clothes size ).

Funny how it varies so much!

Omg so rude! Size 10 is fine. What are you, the body police? 😕

I never said size 10 wasn't fine!

Just that I would expect someone with a BMI of less than 20 to be wearing smaller clothes than that.

sundayfundayclub · 30/08/2025 11:33

@BusWankers the OP said she doesn't wash all the bedding every week.

Kitchenbattle · 30/08/2025 11:36

I can't get over the fact a family of 4 only does two loads of washing a week!

That's 28 pairs of pants, 56 socks, at least half a dozen bottoms, a few bras, 20+ tops, 4+ bath towels, hand towels, tea towels, coats/hats etc, bedding, blankets/throws etc

And probably more if swimming/sports etc.

Even with a 10 kg washing machine that's still one load just for bedding and a couple of towels. So how you're cramming? All the rest into another wash is beyond me

Edited

You really are determined to catch @Kitchenbattle out aren't you? Snide, awful comments - you sound awful.

OP, I'm very similar to you.

There are some horrible posts on here, really shows the worst of some MNers.

Yes I have similar and then a smaller little open container for boxes of paracetamol etc

I am like this at times, and I like the feeling you have when everything's tidy and done.
I find when I keep on top of things, it's easier to keep momentum going.
Recently I was told, I do this, as it's something I can control, when outside my home it's busy and obviously things I can't control, it stops my brain being overwhelmed.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/08/2025 11:39

Kitchenbattle · 30/08/2025 10:34

I have no idea, it’s my shape I presume. Solid size 10.

I'm surprised too. I'm the same height as you, weigh a stone less, but am a 10-12 so a bigger size. Is that because I'm full of flab on a small frame?

Yes of course I have, plenty of time, I don’t spend all day every day cleaning. I take my ds swimming several times a week. I sit and watch tv with them. I take them places like the cinema, parks and lots of other places parents take their dc. I took my dd to Paris this year.

My box looks like a big mess though so I'm going to have to think about how to improve it...

It easier to keep up once the momentum is going.
if your house is already behind then it will take a bit of an effort to get it clean and tidy and then you can carry on from there.

Often this big effort is what gets people thinking that it’s a task and unpleasant. Keeping it tidy and clean is much easier to maintain and this is part of the reason why I don’t let it slide, it’s unpleasant to do a big clean once a week for example than just maintaining a rough schedule daily that gets things done repeatedly. Something about the sum of small parts….

Costcogroupie · 30/08/2025 11:42

HouseAshamed · 30/08/2025 11:02

@Costcogroupie , however, when I was going through a bit of a short term crisis a few years ago I found I absolutely could not put anything away, I'd make a cup of tea or some toast, look around the kitchen and there was stuff everywhere and I just couldn't physically or mentally deal with it. I remember looking at the mess and wondering where all that stuff had come from, and then walking away unable to even start to deal with it. Strange times ......

I have that. I seem to wake up thinking about it, look at it, have anxiety about it, and it doesn't go away. I don't seem able to tackle it.
How did you get past that stage, please?

It was only when the crisis was over / stress reduced that I was able to deal with the 'wall' stopping me doing things.

HouseAshamed · 30/08/2025 11:43

I'm 5'4, 8 st, size 10 in a dress, 8 in trousers. I'm slim but I'm quite chunkily built.

sundayfundayclub · 30/08/2025 11:43

I'm not good at keeping the house tidy hence why i'm here & I still don't have time to learn a language or read as much as I would like. What a stupid dig!

SquirrelFan · 30/08/2025 11:51

Like @DuckbilledSplatterPuff , I'm interested in your storage situation/age of house. Our house isn't small, but there's nowhere to put anything! Case in point - kitchen broom/mop. Both live in the basement because there's nowhere to store them in the kitchen of this Victorian house without them looking awful/getting knocked over. (As it is, the hoover lives here - needs to charge - and I'm continually banging into it!) As a result, we never mop because it's such a faff to go down the spidery stairs and retrieve it. Also DIY is something we're terrible at - so shelves don't get put up/wonky things don't really get fixed. Are you /your husband good at staying on top of that kind of thing? (and how?)

OneTrackMindToday · 30/08/2025 11:51

Ontheedgeofit · 30/08/2025 08:52

Yes and I’ve bought a home paper shredder. 12 months of bills etc kept and as I’m filing I shred the old stuff.

I got rid of the shredder and got one of those confidential roller stamps that obscures data. Much quicker and much smaller!

No not all....
. I just don't understand how she squeezes a weeks worth of a family of 4 washing into basically one load. She must be using a load for the bedding each week, as she does 1 set of 3 each week... So how is she doing it?

I genuinely don't understand how she's fitting it all in...

It reminds of a poster who claimed she did her (1 person) washing once a fortnight, in a normal washing machine, including towels and bedding.... Just impossible!
