I know the job market is terrible, but I just wanted to help any fellow mumsnetters that are struggling to find employment.

For context I work in account management in tech, and applied to 28 roles.

Won’t it be miserable and lonely working on your own 24/7? I can’t think of many things worse than having no option but to permanently WFH - would be bored to tears without human interaction

AwkwardPaws27 · 03/07/2025 19:01

Did you go through an agency or apply directly? Im finding the market really tough at the moment, not helped by very low confidence after my last manager...

Really not unusual for tech jobs. I’m in senior management in Ed tech and have been fully remote for about 8 years. Human interaction is just exactly the same, just via a screen! I’m far too busy to be lonely - wouldn’t change it for the world.

I personally don't like it BUT the alternative i.e. a local job would only pay half or less.

I applied directly. I do have recruiter friends but they didn't have anything when I started looking.

How did you get the job?

How did you get the job?

A VP (hiring manager) got in touch with me via an online community. However, I did follow the whole recruitment process.

I also almost got another job offer but I withdrew.

I’ve worked from home ever since I left uni in 2008. I personally love it. I don’t find it lonely at all.

Same. I started working from home around 2010 and have never looked back! I do have to go into the office in my current job - but to suit myself and its local but I'd have no qualms taking another fully remote job.

What is account management? Are you in project management or is it about liaising with clients? Do you have tech skills yourself?

It's about liaising with clients with some comercial accumen. I'm techy and it comes handy but I've never really used it.

How did you get it- I want it! What are your hours like?

Well I have about 13 years of experience and I had been interviewing at other places for the same role with the same work patterns. Normally as long as you cover a set number of core busines hours (between 9-5) and you attend all the meetings you should (client facing and internal) then you can work whenever you like as long as the work gets done.

Oh and in every single company they've been ok with children in the background
