Well, it seems to be some sort of campaign to encourage breastfeeding rather than someone asking AIBU?
I say that as those who are registering concerns about it are shut down and their opinions insulted.
So I am not sure this is a thread about any issue the OP has, but a campaign to encourage later age breastfeeding. Not a AIBU. As she really doesn't think it is. She is very clear she thinks it is absolutely what everyone should be doing.

Why?

I think that story is one the ones that didn’t happen. The poster thought their ‘clever’ idea about the Kaisers Chiefs would make it seem realistic.

Agree. Definitely not the kind of chat most people would start with their 14 year old son ,especially if they have a mate with them!

TandemFeeder · 05/05/2025 16:21

LoveFridaynight · 05/05/2025 15:10

Do you ever worry about their weight? If they are eating a normal diet and breast milk isn't that too many calories a day. I assume they don't have milk in place of food so I'd be a bit worried about that.

I’ve not come across this being an issue for anyone? Certainly it hasn’t been for us.

Why?

What about those women who COULDNT breastfeed? Don’t shame them

ChinneyTits · 05/05/2025 16:22

Lorlorlorikeet · 05/05/2025 16:17

Shan’t.

I was laughing at the clearly made up name by a poster mocking very extended breastfeeding. That nickname, in all likelihood, didn’t ever happen. It’s made up to poke fun at extended breastfeeders. Come on.

Well that’s just absolutely hilarious! How funny to take the piss out of the OP for a valid parenting choice, you two are a hoot a minute.

And a year old randomly conjuring a song released four years before he was born, and changing the words? Nah. 🤣

My kids listen to a range of music

He likes Queen. That was before my time.

Don't believe me? That's fine. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I stopped soon after 5 because he chose to but add another dynamic. He was immunocompromised and has an auto immune condition. Breast feeding got him through some periods of really poor health and minimised awful side effects of drugs. Plus the constant immune boosting benefits.

There is no downside, just some unexpected massive wins.

This is wonderful to hear.

I’m not. Clearly. If they actually couldn’t they weren’t putting their needs first but that is the tiny minority.

I can't comprehend taking my breast out and putting the nipple in the mouth of a 5 year old child. I know it's natural blah blah milk teeth etc but it's your tit! In the mouth of a child who is old enough to go to school! There are many things that mammals do in the animal kingdom that we have evolved beyond because of our higher consciousness. Shouldn't putting your nipple in the mouth of a 5/6/7 year old maybe be one of them?

Humans in primitive societies weaned their babies between 2 and 4 years old. So it's not "natural" per say after about age 4. Not sure where all these pp are getting their stats from! But the national institute of health says the average natural weaning age is 3

Reading comprehension an issue?

He went back out to his mate.

His mate wasn't in the house.

Believe me you don’t need to be sorry for us 🤣

Do your partners friends know that you both still BF your children?

ChinneyTits · 05/05/2025 16:24

TeenLifeMum · 05/05/2025 16:20

Interesting. My dc are grossed out by breast feeding and never want to speak of it again. They are 13. I think if I said I’d done it to 4/5 they’d be freaking out - but they are quite dramatic. I can’t help thinking that beyond 2 is for the mum’s psychological benefit rather than dc health and wellbeing with the exception of countries with famine.

That’s very sad - why are they grossed out by feeding a baby in a natural way?

Insanityisnotastrategy · 05/05/2025 16:22

No, I’m not because the criteria is different. A tiny bit of critical thinking will make that criteria obvious to you.

It's not AIBU. It's AMA. And I doubt the OP thinks they're going to start a trend for extended breastfeeding.

Because they’re teenagers 🤷🏻‍♀️ (they are also currently grossed out by all boys).

Then be more precise wi th your words. What you actually said doesn’t remotely say what you’re gone on to explain you mean

MichaelandKirk · 05/05/2025 16:25

Just why? This ‘my choice, my baby’. Except it’s not a baby.. Quite honestly I think you aren’t thinking straight. What if their friends found out, do you tell your friends?

emmatherhino · 05/05/2025 16:25

Sofiewoo · 05/05/2025 16:17

It’s also a “gotcha” about how how much they are happy to have been breastfeed at 6y but asking around their mates is hardly the time for them to say they don’t feel comfortable.

Again, reading comprehension is clearly an issue.

He was almost five, not six.

He went back out to his friend - his friend was outside in the park.

When does a baby become a toddler, then a child, then an older child.
Feeding a baby is a natural thing. Feeding a toddler arguably less so. A child even less..... etc etc.
Toddlers are not babies. Nor are children.

That is an absurd comment. There are women who for various reasons cannot breastfeed.

If we are agreeing not to judge women who continue breastfeeding, let us also agree not to judge women who don't breastfeed.
