I’ve had another baby too so am now a tandem feeder. Happy to answer any questions.

No evidence to back this up at all but do wonder if it's more for the Mum's benefit than the child's - maybe psychologically somehow missing in their lives.

I have told DS that I will no longer BF him once his GCSE's are over

I have visions of Mums lined up at the school railings..............................!

This is like satire.

‘oh yeah, Peru, that’s it they breastfeed for ages there. Told you it’s normal’

had a quick Google and it’s bollocks by the way. Only 52% of babies are ever breastfed and nothing about extended bf.

No if you Google that’s the number BF in the first hour after birth. Not ever!

I think that story is one the ones that didn’t happen. The poster thought their ‘clever’ idea about the Kaisers Chiefs would make it seem realistic.

Agree.

if it did happen, that’s so weird the word change in the song. When I was 14, if a boy had done that…massive social ostracisation.

Weird leading question too. Not a “how did you feel about the breastfeeding?” either

How are yiur child's teeth. I ask because decades ago when we had infant children, we went to a dinner party and one if the guests was a dentist. He told us about a six year old child, patient, who had horrendous tooth decay. His discussions with the mother identified no inappropriate food: sweets, additional sugar, honey, etc and he was flummoxed. He then discovered withe child was still being breastfed and that was the cause of the delay because breastmilk contains high levels of sugar. I took it as true and have never researched it.

Never heard this and haven’t had any problems personally so far. I’ll have a look…

How’s your sex life?

While I was breastfeeding it never stopped feeling a bit weird when my husband went near my breasts. That’s not why I stopped but our sex life improving was a bonus.

Late breastfeeding is one of those things that I try not to be judgmental about and question my own prejudices about, but at some level I find it strange and I don’t seem able to change that. I also think certain amount of separation is an important psychological stage for children to go through.

I breastfed my eldest until she was 4. This has no impact on my sexlife. I had no libido for about 6 months, but continuing bf didn't stop my libido from coming back.

MyUmberSeal · 05/05/2025 16:15

All I can picture is a 6/7 year old chowing down for some afternoon boob, while staring at his/her mum, like babies do. Just minging. 🥴

That number was from an infant feeding survey in 2010 so we don’t have up to date numbers yet. But I know it is a lot more than 0.5% in my child’s year. I live in an affluent area with good BF support which helps.

If you were in the Facebook BF groups you’d realise how many there are. I mean it’s not like they ask parents on a survey at that age anyway.

What we do need to be concerned about is the amount of children being given ‘growing up’ milks which do not replicate breast milk and are full of sugar. Companies are making millions off parents who are led into thinking they are healthy.

It was actually from The Lancet in 2016. Yes, breastfeeding rates have gone up, but not a huge amount - from 45 to 53% for babies at 6–8 weeks old, according to the Nuffield Trust (2024).

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 05/05/2025 16:16

Anyone else’s boobs feel really weird reading this thread?! 😂

SnakebitesandSambucas · 05/05/2025 16:16

Mine are now 9 and 6. He wouldn't actually latch on as it would feel weird to him now he's learning about sex education. But for him it's all about that bond with me and the comfort and security. Plus he couldn't latch as his teeth have come through. He still remembers, they both occasionally pat my boobs as a comfort. And say baby will be having you soon. It was a gentle weaning as they both stopped themselves over a course of a month at different ages. So it was an easy process. They did both take dummies as well. I got a lovely photo of them tandem feeding 😍😍😍. I was so happy I could feed them both. I hope I can have as easy a time with this baby but it's a skill that both mum and baby need to learn..

crumblingschools · 05/05/2025 15:10

Haven’t we evolved from caveman days?

Diets have changed. Children get more nutrition from other foods.

If your child needed comfort at school pick up would you whip out your boob?

Do you ever say no to your child, or if they get whatever they want?

No, I wouldn’t do it at school pick up.

In fact I would say no at this point to feeding at any other time than bedtime other than in exceptional circumstances.

That does fit more with my experience which is that stopping occurred just naturally between two and three. It was natural to the point that I didn’t think ‘this is the last feed’, it just turned out to be.

Yeah, this happened with DD when she was about three.

She asked to feed less and less and my boobs started getting sore! Then after a week of not asking she did and I just said "Sorry, they hurt now". She ran off unbothered and never asked again.

I think that story is one the ones that didn’t happen. The poster thought their ‘clever’ idea about the Kaisers Chiefs would make it seem realistic.

It’s also a “gotcha” about how how much they are happy to have been breastfeed at 6y but asking around their mates is hardly the time for them to say they don’t feel comfortable.

Lorlorlorikeet · 05/05/2025 16:17

ChinneyTits · 05/05/2025 16:13

It’s the same thing - you laughed at a nasty nickname given to a small child who was being bullied. You’re an adult laughing at a child being bullied.

Go take a long hard look in the mirror.

Shan’t.

I was laughing at the clearly made up name by a poster mocking very extended breastfeeding. That nickname, in all likelihood, didn’t ever happen. It’s made up to poke fun at extended breastfeeders. Come on.

YourLoyalPlumOP · 05/05/2025 16:17

BendingSpoons · 05/05/2025 14:32

I suggested many times to my 4yo DS that he might prefer milk in a cup, but he was adamant he wouldn't! Feeding definitely wasn't self-indulgent!

I was breastfed till later also. I think I was 6….

however due to me nearly dying after giving birth I was unable to do so being in ICU both times.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 05/05/2025 16:18

@emmatherhino I can see my kids doing this! They love playing around with songs and stuff to do with boobs, bums or farts 😝

@HiddenInCubeOfCheese yes even when I'm not pregnant. Babies or toddlers crying can set my boobs on that let down feeling!!!

And a year old randomly conjuring a song released four years before he was born, and changing the words? Nah. 🤣

Interesting. My dc are grossed out by breast feeding and never want to speak of it again. They are 13. I think if I said I’d done it to 4/5 they’d be freaking out - but they are quite dramatic. I can’t help thinking that beyond 2 is for the mum’s psychological benefit rather than dc health and wellbeing with the exception of countries with famine.

ChinneyTits · 05/05/2025 16:20

@BigHeadBertha I didn’t realise that breastfeeding whilst pregnant could make you have contractions? Sometimes our bodies are very strange, that seems very contradictory for your body to do! Was it because of the pressure it puts upon your body combined with the pressure of growing a baby?

We are always changing the lyrics to songs to fit a situation in this house 🤣🤣🤣

You wanna hear the boys versions of 'last christmas'...(or not!)
