No doubt I'd get a load of shade about 'bragging' but that's not the intention. If anyone is interested in asking any questions about travelling regularly with a little own, feel free to ask.

I often travel just the two of us as his Dad can't get as much time off work as I do.

@Abracadabra12345

Far more than a weekend, we had an airbnb in Bled and with a car we visited some beautiful places and did some cracking hikes. We've booked another 6 nights for next year but in Kranjska Gora this time. We have been to and seen some absolutely beautiful places but there is something truly special about it.

Toastcrumbsinsofa · 13/09/2024 18:44

Have you travelled to many places within the British Isles?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 13/09/2024 18:45

MaryQueenofScots14 · 13/09/2024 18:23

Nobody cares how you got there . . .

The same happened to mine, never had that happen before.

Wow that’s amazing!!

I am not a great traveller but want to be.

You’ve inspired me to look at a trip abroad next year. So far we’ve only stayed in the UK (since having kids!)

Some of the comments are really bizarre - child won’t remember so only for OP’s benefit? They won’t have memories that they can recall but the experiences will absolutely have an impact on them as they grow and develop.

Is everyone else just locking their kids up in a room until they have better memories?

The travelling is fantastic and good on OP.

From my own POV I'm just thinking trips like these would be wasted on me at age 3 (maybe kids today are much more advanced than me though!).

If he was aged, say, 5 up, then the impact would be much much greater.. I'd have thought anyway.

I was thinking of the OP's weekend in Bucharest and other weekends.

Yours sounds amazing, that's what I call visiting a country, not endless hours in airports

Everycloudect · 13/09/2024 18:52

It does sound wonderful but only if it suits you which it obviously does. Personally speaking even if I had this opportunity I'd miss my DH far too much. I know this having spent a long weekend away with friends & our children when they were around 2/3. The minute I stepped on the plane I knew I'd made a huge mistake. I never did it again.

Do you realise he will probably remember very little, if anything, of it.

@frenchnoodle

and? OP will remember. Holidays are about ALL of the family, not just the kids.

And the thread is about someone who won't remember rather than the poster who will.

Just odd to me, memories are odd don't you think?

The thread is very much specifically about the kid.... Most Memories of these countries will not stay past 6 or 7 year of age, if that.

I think AMA should be renamed Fiction Fest.

This made me laugh 😆

I’ll be flying for 4 hours with newborn twins (they’ll be 3 months old at the time), and I need some advice. How will they be seated during the flight? Is there a significant difference if we choose to fly business class? Can I use the car seats I have from my Cybex Gazelle for the flight?

Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thatmissingsock · 13/09/2024 19:02

Do you think your 3 year old will remember even a single one of those 32 countries in another 10 years time?
(answer: nope)

If you split the UK up you get even more.

I don't think there's any bulk head (where bassinet is) available on short haul. Are you flying with someone? I think you're only allowed to hold one child.

With over 26k followers across social media, we totally do it for the gram.

And by doing so it helps others with tips when travelling and inspires visits to different locations.

What would we need to know. Can't think of anything.

CheesecakeOnTheLanai · 13/09/2024 19:19

What's the name of your Insta account OP? (If you're allowed to say). I've not travelled further than Ireland due to an absolute terror of flying so I'm always jealous of people who travel widely!

I suspect - just a suspicion, mind - that enough people stopped flying, there would be fewer planes in the sky and less weight in air transit therefore using less fuel.

The idea that our actions don't make any difference is daft.

But in reality this won't happen. We all try to do our part with recycling, turning off lights, keep heating low etc but it's the big industries and companies, like airlines, who will never cease, because of profit. Can you imagine the rich and famous giving up their luxury jets, first class seating in planes, an entourage of cars, mansions having heated swimming pools on 24/7? Las Vegas without the billions of lights, list can go on. The multi million conglomerates need to set an example, meanwhile all we as caring humans do our best in our way and some refusing to fly won't make a difference. That's the capitalist, entitled and greedy world so having our own enjoyment while seeing through it is all we can do really. X

NotOnlyFedUpButAlso · 13/09/2024 19:26

Can't say the travelling bothers me much one way or the other, the thread is an obvious brag anyway. What really bothers me, from early in the thread is "I might allow him the occasional Monday/Friday off school for a city break".

There's your OPs attitude, front and centre.

I don’t think this is right. Many large corporations are doing everything they can to tackle climate change, e.g. Unilever. They take a long term view based on the long term impact they know it will have on their business. Whereas many governments are only interested in one election cycle.
And I believe in the power of collective action. We all need to do our bit, and we can make a difference with our actions and particularly how we choose to spend our money and the businesses we choose to support.
