Stealth boast

Who cares what you earn

Well lots of people are clearly interested or there would be no replies. Money gives you choices in life, who wouldn’t want that?

Popping back to answer a few of the themes brought up:

i don’t feel I have missed out on time with the kids. Yes I travel with work prob once a month but I try to do that when they are with their dad. On a normal day I take them to school (no breakfast club) and pick them up at 5.15. So pretty equivalent to what many working mums are doing. I tried part time (4 days a week) when my eldest was little but I did as much work for less pay. The offset is that I would work most evenings once they were in bed.

Sexism has been a feature in my career. I have been taken to meetings to look ‘pretty’ and suggested different jobs where I could use my ‘charms’ in a client facing way. Yuk no thanks. I used to just see it as part of life but now I would call it out.

I balance my mental health with exercise mainly. If I can train 5 times a week I feel resilient to everything else work throws at me. I don’t have the best self esteem around my appearance (thanks ex husband!) so this really helps.

No questions OP but loved reading your responses. I love that you're working an average week. I always thought being too high up would mean long hours but sounds like you have a great lifestyle. Good for you.

Nice to see the comment on sexism - well not nice that it’s still prevalent in 2024 but a fact.
I work in a tech industry doing ok at director level but want to push upwards and feel as if I am being restrained.
also my company employs 40k people with different pay structures per country and have just found out that if I was US based I’d be on 3x salary and 4x bonus and shares - so frustrated !

I am being headhunted for a £100k/yr job (3 times what I earn now), I have two very young children and my inner voice tells me I am absolutely not good enough for this and should just stay put where I am comfortable.

My question is, did you or do you suffer from imposter syndrome and how do you deal with it?

If you are being headhunted then I would say go for it. In the last 5 years I have gone from earning £43k a year to £92k a year. In this last role I went client side from vendor side. I got a £32k pay rise. I really worried about the role being "too big" for me but actually it is really easy. You realise you have skills that some companies really need and others don't have. Once you realise that and can hone in on that experience and skill then the imposter syndrome tends to go.

Thank you for this. I don't want to hijack this thread but largely because of the replies I've had (and encouragement from my lovely husband) I had a call with the recruiter on Tuesday and they're putting a package proposal thing together for me😊 It is what you say, a combination of technical skills and a certification not a lot of people have.

Congratulations @ButtermilkBeetroot

@ButtermilkBeetroot good for you. I am sure it'll work out for you.
