Just got back from my first Disney cruise. I had loads of questions and couldn’t find any answers on here before we went so thought I’d do an AMA in case anyone else wants to ask :)

I’ve been on five and soon to go on another, so no questions but I do love a Disney Cruise chat!

Diffrent · 31/08/2023 18:02

Fab, which country? Do you get off at shore to explore the country or is it all on board?

Theblackdogagain · 31/08/2023 18:05

I'm going next year from Southampton for my first time. My question is around breakfast and lunch . How busy is the table service breakfast instead of the buffet and did you use it. We're 2 adults going and to me it seems better to have a table service breakfast instead of the buffet which I believe to be busy? Also are the only lunch options the buffet and the fast food places?

Disneydance · 31/08/2023 18:07

@BethDuttonsTwin its my new obsession! Booked the next one while onboard!

@Diffrent we went to La Rochelle and got off for a few hours. I’ve been there before and we were keen to explore the ship more than we were to explore France :)

How old were your kids?

That makes sense! Bet it was magical Grin

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/08/2023 18:08

How much did it cost?

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 31/08/2023 18:08

Just following!

needtonamechangeforthis1 · 31/08/2023 18:09

Did you bump into Adam and Gary on the cruise? If you watch Disney vlogs you will probably know who they are!

Disneydance · 31/08/2023 18:10

@Theblackdogagain we did two days buffet breakfast and two days restaurant. The restaurant was much calmer and quieter but also takes a lot longer and obviously a lot more limited with choices. The choices for breakfast buffet were overwhelming, but it was much busier and we did have to look around to find a table. Both experiences were nice, I didn’t think either were unpleasant and the cruise was very busy!

lunch was buffet and again, huge choice but busy! I think you could order room service for lunch, free to order but you need to tip (around $1 per item of food)

I was like that. Went on the first one, which honestly I wasn’t looking forward to as I thought it would be nothing but cheesy boredom, and absolutely loved it! Always book a place holder for another cruise while onboard.

Theblackdogagain · 31/08/2023 18:18

@Disneydance thanks, I'm a veggie and not great in busy loud queues so it's good to know the breakfast table service is OK, and room service is always available

Disneydance · 31/08/2023 19:54

@Theblackdogagain the table service shouldn’t be an issue, we were always easily seated and the food was slow but worth the wait! The room service took around 30 minutes at busier times, but the staff were always lovely!

@BethDuttonsTwin ive got one booked and booked a placeholder on this one. Just trying to decide what to do next!

TedWilson · 31/08/2023 19:55

What was the itinerary / cost?

Disneydance · 31/08/2023 21:21

@TedWilson it cost just over £3,000 for two adults and two children for 4 nights to La Rochelle and back.

Wowser, I have never been on a cruise before but I'm guessing there is a lot more than just a boat ride and food included for that amount !
Sounds like you had a great time tho

Lasttimehonest · 31/08/2023 21:27

That sounds like a huge amount? What do you get for your money? How old are your kids?

Disneydance · 31/08/2023 22:06

@Lasttimehonest i don’t drink which definitely helped as alcohol isn’t included! But pretty much everything else was. Food was very ‘posh’ for my taste, but had an enormous buffet option too! Characters all over the place, broadway level shows, kids clubs, plus constant entertainment such as quizzes, trivia etc. fireworks one night, pools and an over the water slide called the aquaduck. I’ve never cruised with anyone else, but it felt like there was always something to do.

How much was it and was it worth it

bluebirdsongs · 31/08/2023 22:16

My kids would love to do one.

This sounds great!

How old are your kids and ages of kids on board.

Mine are 4 & 6 so want to hit the sweet spot if not too young that they forget or too old and it isn't as magic

margotsdevil · 31/08/2023 23:10

I love a cruise, and also love Disney... so I suppose what I would like to know is does it have the Disney magic? As in what is there to make you feel like it's a Disney ship rather than any other cruise line? I'm happy to pay a premium if it's worth it, I just don't know anyone who's been to tell me!

hmb255 · 31/08/2023 23:19

Does anyone get sea sick on the cruises or is it less likely due to the size of them? 2 of mine were sea sick in the ferry across to France so this worried me when thinking about it.

Crazyrichcat · 31/08/2023 23:31

Is your partner a gas engineer? My gas engineer went on the exact same cruise!

MMorales · 31/08/2023 23:32

What are the good options like?

Could a vegetarian or vegan have a good variety to choose from?
