Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

Agree you won’t need ice packs, I also don’t think you need dry shampoo or wet wipes, I was told fine to shower with the tapes on. Get at least two of the bras, it’s unpleasant if you bleed through. Good luck!

Madagascary · 07/02/2024 19:07

I think in the other thread I discussed asking my UK surgeon about ice packs and they looked at me as if I was mad.

I really didn’t find the washing thing such a big deal. My mum gave me a shower on about day two as my husband was away.

And I remember washing my own hair over the bath on about day four or five, but honestly you’re just at home so it doesn’t really matter -certainly wet wipes were not needed.

Singletrackmind · 07/02/2024 20:27

Defo no ice packs!! Big Ushaped pillow, best thing ever 😁I wasn’t allowed to shower until after the first tape change at 7 days … strip washed at the sink 👍
Hair tied back/ in plaits, I’ve looked worse 😂

countrytweed · 07/02/2024 20:29

Got it re: ice packs and wet wipes 👍🏼 Makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to reply x

Madagascary · 07/02/2024 20:35

Yes, instead of a strip wash, I stood in the shower while my mum washed me from the tummy down, that was a strange event. She decided halfway through to tell me I’d a nice bottom which freaked me out.

Madagascary · 07/02/2024 20:35

I was like “mum I’m not asking for an appraisal “

No ice packs here either but I did use a pillow for the seatbelt.
Stock up on juice to make you poop. That was the worst thing I think.
Excited for those about to enter a new small boobed era!

Madagascary · 07/02/2024 21:06

They gave me a laxative and a friend had kindly given me Marks & Spencer‘s French prunes and I made the mistake of taking both. I can tell you getting up in a hurry to run from my bed to the loo with a liposuction scar was no fun.

CoolShoeshine · 07/02/2024 22:59

I was advised that it was fine to shower as long as the tapes don’t get wet, I managed it as best possible by lowering the shower head down as far as it would go on the rail (which was just under boob level), so I could wash my lower half in the normal way. Then I just washed pits separately. I did keep a bra on in the shower with a flannel underneath over each boob, just to protect against splashes. I washed hair over sink on day 5, didn’t bother with conditioner as it was such a faff.
M&S prunes would have been a godsend as I didn’t poo for nearly a week after despite having had an injected laxative. Strangely disconcerting when I finally went and it was malteaser sized

Madagascary · 08/02/2024 03:08

Lolol.

I specify marks ones as they are Smokey and sweet mmmm

countrytweed · 08/02/2024 11:39

Heading to M&S (note to self - stock up on prunes)... do you recommend any of their post surgery bras?

countrytweed · 08/02/2024 11:40

And do you size down in cup?

omgsally · 08/02/2024 11:43

I booked in to have a wash and blow dry at the closest salon about a week after my op.

Madagascary · 09/02/2024 04:48

Yes. Their post mastectomy crop top. Thick band underneath which was good for scars

voici. Post op

Perfect! Thanks @Madagascary

Ilikecats · 11/02/2024 13:57

Hello everyone, im seriously considering this surgery at the age of 44. Lots of reasons but mainly posture related, been told I have kyposis and a lordotic lower back. Always had really big boobs which make me self consious. When it comes to clothing I either look like a square frump or cheap and tacky. I have an appointment with GP next week but likely to be declined on the basis that I smoke (2/3 per day) which I will quit. I am considering private surgery but the repayments will probably leave me struggling a fair bit. I think what im asking is will the financial sacrafice be worth it and does anyone have any advice? Im 5'2 9st 10lbs or thereabouts and last time I was measured I was a 34GG. Thank you x

Madagascary · 11/02/2024 14:41

So stop smoking today
because YES YES YES.

(honestly, though, what’s the point in smoking two cigarettes a day?)

All of this 😁

Bigtitsbetty · 11/02/2024 17:29

@Ilikecats have you searched the CCG guidelines for your breast reductions in your area?

I know its a terrible habit. Two a day because I do it im secret pretty much and most people dont know. Im pretty sure the criteria is not to be a smoker x

sillysausage92 · 17/02/2024 16:09

I'm just under 2 weeks until I have implant removal and mastopexy/uplift. So technically not a reduction but the end result I will be smaller and very similar operation especially scar and recovery wise.

Got my new pjs today and some E45 and Sanex shower gel. I need to get a post op bra and a V pillow to sleep upright.

I don't have a choice I need to do the school run on day 2 post op - I can either drive or walk. The walk will be 40 minute round trip or a total 10 minute drive (round trip) how did you all feel on day 3 post op?

countrytweed · 17/02/2024 16:28

@sillysausage92 Hope all goes well! I'm day 5 of recovery... and it's not been that bad EXCEPT for the side lipo. When I haven't taken painkillers it's been really uncomfortable (Emma Guns described it as like wearing a rusty underwired bra, which is spot on)... but I think it's the lipo bruising/swelling which is making it all feel difficult at the mo. If it hadn't been for that, could have I done a walking school run? Possibly.
All that said, delighted with my new profile so far 😆 Over a kilo off!

sillysausage92 · 17/02/2024 17:06

That's amazing @countrytweed ! I bet you feel like a new woman!

Worst case scenario I could get a taxi. I'm not having any lipo so hoping it's not too bad. I'm going to make myself a little basket of the things I need. DH will be here for day 1 post op but after that I'm on my own 😩

Bigtitsbetty · 17/02/2024 17:11

@countrytweed im glad it’s going well

@sillysausage92 regardless of surgery you shouldn’t drive for 48 hours after anaesthetic as your reflexes will be dull. You won’t be fit to drive properly surgically on day 2 either. You won’t have proper range of movement, flexibility or strength in your arms.
