I support extinction rebellion protests, ask me anything you like - ( I have a very thick skin, nothing you say will upset me)

There is a theory that Just Stop Oil is funded by Russia/China, as your protest seems to revolve around not digging for new oil in the UK (quote from your website below)

Just Stop Oil is a nonviolent civil resistance group demanding the UK Government stop licensing all new oil, gas and coal projects

So you would not protest reinstating Russian sources of oil?

Seems odd that the protests have all ramped up at a time we are at war with Russia.

When I couldn’t reach my Mum after my Dad had just died that weekend on my one day off as the M25 was closed and I’d been stuck for HOURS due to protests do you think I gave a flying crap about your cause? Disrupting the lives of ordinary people with their ‘mundane’ lives might seem okay to you but let me tell you I’ll never forgive those arseholes.

My Mum died within eight months. I will regret for ever I couldn’t be there for her that day.

I note that OP ignores the harder to answer posts like this.

The idea that closing roads doesn't be cause harm is laughable.

It's clearly not true that people who need to get to hospital are let through these protests- we all seen videos of relatives of people who've been stopped in very distressed states.

Poxie · 01/08/2023 08:31

Were you privately educated?

The reason I ask is because my only direct experience of ER is getting stuck in a traffic jam they'd caused in Bristol city centre and my car being surrounded by 100s of laughing posh students waving placards. One of them banged on my roof and I told him to fucking watch it. He looked absolutely terrified.

privately educated? No. I expect some protesters are, but no more than the average percent in any group of people.

Lots are from graduate professions, medicine, law, etc. Not privately educated though.

Your protester may well have been very frightened, it can be a very frightening experience, it takes a lot of courage for many people to protest

I think "ramping up" is because more and more people are joining in. I don't think the war has changed the overall pattern of numbers of people joining these groups.

I don't think JSO is being "funded" by anyone. I don't have personal experience protesting for this group, but have spoken to them on the street, they seem just like any of us, ER, Insulate Britain, etc. each individual funds themselves, as far as they need any funding ( mostly just access to a mobile phone and a train ticket)

I support XR in their latest campaigns which are actively aiming NOT to disrupt ordinary people but seats of power - protests around parliament and private jets etc.
I have campaigned with XR but public opinion is hostile as people conflate JSO and XR and assume it’s just twat posh kids causing trouble. I’m a middle aged mum of four and I support their aims with my whole heart.

What car do you drive?
What other form of transport do you use?
Where do you shop?

Your vague answer about what diet you eat screams meat and fish.

Unless you're squeaky clean you should pipe down and let people get to work and hospital.

DontBeBitterGlitter2023 · 01/08/2023 08:43

Absolutely no one I know has increased their support for you after the behaviour they have seen. Most people think you are entitled ignorant arseholes. I can't think of any questions to ask you other than when will you get a real job?

Why? Does it mean climate change goes away?

AngelinaFibres · 01/08/2023 08:46

I went to one of your meetings . I wanted to see the Coat of Hopes you had made for COP 26. I thought the idea was very clever. However the meeting itself was really odd. I felt very uncomfortable throughout. There was such an oddly competitive vibe. " I care about the planet" "Oh I care too but I care sooooo much more than you ( and I'm very carefullyjudging your hair, nails, clothes, means of transport, diet just in case you aren't quite as good at it all as me)."Everyone was dressed in the 'I only shop in charity shops ' way. I dress from charity shops but I don't feel the need to look like I sleep on a bench. It was a hot evening. The lack of deodorant was overpowering. It felt like a 70s cult and if we'd all drunk poisoned orange juice at the end because armageddon was coming I wouldn't have been the slightest bit surprised. The main thing I came away with was the breathtaking arrogance in that room that you are the only people who care.

bendmeoverbackwards · 01/08/2023 01:37

@Market1 how lovely for you and your fellow ER to be able to risk losing your jobs. You do realise that thousands of less privileged people can’t afford to take that risk?

Irrelevant.
If you believed in her cause, you'd be grateful for her and her ilk protesting so that people who couldn't afford to lose their jobs didn't have to.

gottogo23 · 01/08/2023 08:47

Also, the government are already putting in steps to reduce oil usage overall. It is not an overnight transition as so much of our society relies on oil still. Would you be happy if we stopped oil use overnight and we all had to suffer the consequences of it? What exactly would you like to happen quicker?

So what did you do after making huge judgements about people with no deodorant and wearing second hand clothes not to your liking? Nothing I'm guessing.

RoseBucket · 01/08/2023 08:48

I was stuck by ER for nearly two hours and nearly missed my grans funeral, I was so stressed and upset and all the cars sitting with engines running not going anywhere was one of my more stressful days I lost any respect that day for ER.

Holding up members of the public is going to lose support for a very important cause, what alternatives are ER considering to gain much of the support they have lost. I also don’t understand why places such as fast fashion are not more of an important, they environment and human cost of those types of businesses play a huge part.

I don't know why you are saying I have given vague answers. I have answered explaining my principles, which are to live in the least environmentally damaging way possible, and I have answered giving specifics.

I don't own a car, I don't eat meat or fish or diary, I only use renewable energy at home, I use public transport if I can't walk or cycle, plus a couple of taxis a year when necessary. I don't fly on holiday, I source second hand and local as much as I can.

Lots of other people don't follow those rules for themselves, but make other decisions that protect the environment.

No one is "squeaky clean" and absolutely everyone can be criticised for not being more environmentally protective, it is a bit pointless to say so

There are many, many ways to make a change. Being a virtue signalling twat is not compulsory nor useful. Nor does it get them the moral high ground.

notimagain · 01/08/2023 08:51

@Market1

"I don't take holidays abroad."

I don't think that was quite the question posed and TBH it's looked to me several times as if you've side stepped any questions that might involve discussing flights and flying.

The only answer you have given - "never flown for leisure..." is worthy of a politician because of course it still means you could be flying for business, professional reasons, to get to/from protests, visiting family (I guess, if you construe that as leisure....).

I'm not asking you to out yourself but any chance you could give us some idea, even a rough one, of how often you've flown in, say, the last say ten years for any reason what so ever?

Doing that might allay some suspicions.

ssd · 01/08/2023 08:54

Market1 · 01/08/2023 01:03

Thank you

I don't mind defending our cause, but I did start this thinking people would be more interested in what it is like to be arrested, how the police treat us, what happens in court, etc.

You expect people to be interested in how you are treated when you don't care how others you disrupt are treated. Says it all really.

Market1 · 01/08/2023 08:55

Dombasle · 01/08/2023 08:49

As I said, people make their own decisions. I don't really have any opinion about individuals,- no idea what else she is doing in her life that helps the environment, or why she made those decisions on that day.

I would like to see plastic packaging banned on supermarket fruits, and policies put in place to disincentivise private car ownership.

Many people are on a journey as they gradually understand more and more, and gradually change their habits for the better

I certainly would never turn anyone away from joining a protest because I thought my lifestyle was less environmentally damaging than theirs!

I think that the point. To you the woman who's Dad had just died isn't interesting because it's a similar discussion point to the child who needs to get to hospital but these are real individuals you are causing to suffer.

You justify this to yourself by imagining that the pain you cause is going to force others to do as you say but you can't admit that the people you bully have done nothing to deserve what you do to them.

Honestly, like what though? I'm not being facetious because I'm doing nothing except taking trying to take personal responsibility but that's not enough now.
Greenpeace do great work but when was the last time you saw them in the news.
