Have you always been such a risk taker? DP purposefully left the kitchen rug on the line the other night to get darked upon. Can barely look him in the eye at the moment. Had no idea I was living with a psychopath.

I mean, I'm known for writing speeches on a bus ticket circa ten minutes before I am giving them so I'd say risk is part of my daily life.

My husband asked me why I didn’t just leave the washing on the line yesterday when it wasn’t fully dry - the horror ! I told him it would be darked on and rubbed by spider willies but he said that’s fine it’s all your stuff 😂

Hairbrushhandle · 11/06/2023 11:39

Pegs do degrade, which is why I've switched to stainless steel ones. I sometimes wonder if we left the huge plastic continent in the sea out on a washing line for the summer then it would just disintegrate?

Blip · 11/06/2023 11:39

Are you ok Boris?

Meerkitkat · 11/06/2023 11:43

I don't even have an outside line 🤷‍♀️ just put everything on a clothes horse inside, am I doing it wrong? 🤔

I hung out my washing yesterday and was thinking how long it would take before someone posted this crap again. Hasn’t it been done to death.

Speaking of crap: yours is one of the first posts.

EvenmoreDisorganised · 11/06/2023 11:57

Surely this is a completely normal thing to do?

ditalini · 11/06/2023 09:42

I can support your dh's theory with empirical evidence. I never bother to take my pegs in and they're starting to become brittle and snap making me reconsider my choices.

Damn! I hate it when he's right!

Sustained a peg related injury earlier so can confirm the blighters will snap, sometimes spectacularly, if left to live outside. 😢

What's with all the miserable sods?

Are you too hot and irritable?

Those aren't funny either. I agree @lankyhanky. There's got to be more interesting things to talk about than laundry! However, there will be a lot of tea-spitting and baby-waking going on because of this hilarious AMA.

Soontobe60 · 11/06/2023 13:33

My DM once left the washing out to get darked on. the following morning, as a young. Innocent teenager, I rushed down and got my favourite jeans off the line, ran back up and pulled them on. these were in the days before stretch denim had been invented and you had to use a coat hanger to fasten the zip whilst lying on the floor. As I struggled to fasten them, an EARWIG crawled out of the top of them and landed on my nether regions. Boy did I scream. And I couldn't get the buggers off they were so tight!
Since then, I have NEVER left my washing out to get darked on. That’s the way of madness.

Greentree1 · 11/06/2023 14:54

I managed to leave a wasp in my DHs jeans (not even darked on) he was not amused.

Greentree1 · 11/06/2023 14:55

I had a friend who hung out washing whatever the weather (probably not when chucking it) and brought it in when dry, however long that took. Could have been darked on several times.

DarkForces · 11/06/2023 14:56

What will you do now your clothes are cursed?

I'm going to ride the wave of bad luck I think!
I can confirm that now I have personal experience of people coming in to a harmless thread to be snotty, it's more unsettling than you think, however if I can ride the wave of darked washing I am sure I can survive this AMA experienceWink

I always thought it was best practise to leave it out! It’s just a big old risk if it rains. It smells lovely if left in the fresh night air.
