He had a lower leg amputation last year due to Fibular Hemimelia. I get a lot of curiosity surrounding this so feel free to AMA Smile

How is he managing with the prosthetic?

You must have had some very difficult times. I hope your child is doing well. Was the fibular hemimelia diagnosed before they were born? If not how did you find there was a problem?

How often will he need to get a new one? Kids grow quickly!

Amazingly! He runs around, climbs etc like any other kid! Obviously we have our struggles but most days nothing stops him. He got his first prosthetic last August and walked after 2 weeks of getting it despite not even being able to stand up unaided before amputation :)

Very difficult but life is amazing now! We found out at our anomaly scan that he was missing his fibulae bone, his tibia was half the size it should be and he had major foot/ankle deformities - I was around 22 weeks pregnant

I'm not sure yet haha! We got our first in August and it's still going strong but had the odd adaption to it like changing the foot size. I think it's roughly around a year so I reckon we'll have a new one just after the summer!

How did you process this all, both when pregnant and after he was born?
So lovely to hear that life is really good now :-)

I love this AMA, your posts make me smile OP.

I bet he will be the star of the class when he starts nursery, the other kids will love seeing his prosthesis. Small children are so accepting ( although admittedly some parents are jerks but thats another post ).

Im sure he will go from strength to strength now he’s mobile. And wreck your house like all 2 year olds !
