What's your best tip to get make up to look good all day?

applebee33 · 01/04/2023 21:19

Set your makeup at each stage ! A good setting spray is your best friend for makeup that will last . Also really depends on your skincare you use before you apply the makeup . If your using a greasy face cream it will sit on your skin creating a barrier that the makeup will then sit on top , therefore sliding off ! Wink

What’s the weirdest request you’ve ever had?

MichaelAndEagle · 01/04/2023 21:40

Do you think you know what will make most people look their best?
How much has bridal make up fashion changed since you've been doing it?

I think I might not leave enough time between face cream and make up.

What is the worst experience you've ever had on a wedding day?

SkaneTos · 01/04/2023 21:51

Do you do the makeup for the bridesmaids too? And the mothers, etc.?
Is there a lot of drama behind the scenes?

OhhhBiscuits · 01/04/2023 21:54

Do you judge people who don’t professionally get things done? I’m getting married in a few months and I don’t go to the salon to get my eyebrows done, I’ve got stray hairs and lip hairs, I don’t get my hair professionally cut or coloured. Ive been delaying my trial because I’m really embarrassed and anxious about it all.

applebee33 · 02/04/2023 21:28

Weirdest request was from a bride who booked me for trial but didn't want makeup Biscuit every single product I put on her face she didn't like , even a tinted moisturiser , in the end she let me put clear brow gel through her brows and some Vaseline on her lips and cheeks , she still booked me for her wedding day to do just that . Bizarre

I definitely know the minute I sit someone in my chair what will suit them best, the thing is we don't always agree and of course I want client to be happy and feel comfortable. I think makeup has changed so much because of unrealistic photoshopped pictures and people showing you them and asking for the same, are then disappointed when I can't magically airbrush their flaws away

Worst experience was a bride who seemed really off , she kept nearly fainting and I knew something was going on as bridesmaids were whispering and on phones etc. bride eventually broke down and told me her ex ( father of her kids ) was down outside the church waiting for her to cause mayhem and that he was going to punch her and her fiancés lights out . She was absolutely distraught and he ruined her whole day . She was panicking as she didn't want her df and brothers to know as they would kick off too. Poor woman vomited 3 times , when I left I drove past the church and there was who I assumed her crazy ex outside with a can of beer in his hand

Yes I do the whole bridal party most of the time . There is never a dull moment , always one bridesmaid who tries to make the day about her and you will have the bride and other bridesmaids throwing knowing looks at one another . Or you will have the grooms mother arrive into the house demanding I do her makeup or squeeze her in , therefore putting everyone else out . There is also great times too. It's lovely to be apart of such a special private occasion that you wouldn't normally be privy to

No I don't judge anyone and most make up artists won't either , I've had plenty of clients come to me with unruly brows , hairy chin / lip etc . I try my best to make them feel comfortable, if it's a trial I ask them if they are going to be getting any treatments done waxing etc , and just explain the benefits to them but assure them if they are happy with their full brow etc we can work with that . I have offered to tidy these things myself as I'm aware not everyone has money to get all these treatments done, I've tweezed a few hairy chins last minute in my day , we all get a few strays ! Don't be worried , any makeup artist worth their weight will go out of their way to be courteous and kind , I know a lot of women feel quite anxious getting it done so I keep it light hearted

What is fashionable at the moment? Or does it not really follow fashion that much.

I got married 15 years ago and I got the impression at the time a 'natural' but still quite high effort sort of look was in for weddings, but I just had my sister doing my makeup following us both going to a tutorial at Mac and decided to go for a fairly glam look.

tillytoodles1 · 02/04/2023 21:47

My daughter had a makeup artist for her wedding and we all looked fabulous, so much better than we could have done ourselves. It's well worth it to have someone do all the work while you just relax.

determinedtomakethiswork · 02/04/2023 22:08

How long should I wait between moisturising my face in the morning and putting on make up?

determinedtomakethiswork · 02/04/2023 22:08

Also what is your best tip for sparse eyebrows?

TheUndoing · 02/04/2023 22:20

What would you recommend if you’re not thrilled with the hair and make up after the trial?

mumntown · 02/04/2023 22:20

My makeup flakes on my skin, even when my skin is not dry and is moisturised well. What could I do to avoid this?

I tend to try stay away from what is fashionable to an extent if I can, for eg big brows were all the rage last year but they rarely suit 90% of faces unless your 20 and have a supermodel look . Some ladies will have small hooded eyes and will want a high glam look and it's just not possible so you will make the most of what space they have and pop on some individual lashes to open the eyes for eg, once they see themselves then they are delighted at how fresh they look without the original planned heavy eye makeup

Yes it can be such a lovely experience and once your comfortable with your artist and know their work it makes it even more so

If you can at all pop your cream on at least 10 minutes before applying your makeup , not always do able when your rushing but I'll apply mine first things whilst running around getting kids ready then makeup last before I go out the door

The Ordinary have brought out a really affordable brow serum which will help the hairs grow back , if you can't buy this then castor oil is a good cheap product , apply every night before bed .

If you mean in general to fill them cosmetically , watch some you tube videos on pencilling in a brow . Katie Jane hughes has v sparse brows and you would never know as she draws them on v naturally

100% please tell us. I always stress the whole way through the trial that if there is something they don't like etc please tell me, I'll go to the ends of the earth to make it work for you , that is the whole point of the trial , to find out what the bride likes / dislikes etc . Once your polite in saying it we really don't mind . No point wasting money and pretending your happy of course

Can you recommend one? What is the best foundation to stay on all day on combination mid forties' skin?
