Hi all!

I'm a care assistant in a large care home, which is part of a large UK wide group. The only questions I can't answer is about getting someone admitted to a care home or personal legal maters (i.e power of attorney etc) as these vary across the UK too much.

lets go!

Hi, my dad is due to be admitted to a care home in the next few days (dementia). What one thing can I do to help him settle? Thanks!

Try and be with him on the first day if you can for reassurance, and bring some familiar things from his normal environment to put out straight away I.e photos, bed blanket etc

Everyone with dementia is different and the transition doesn't always go smoothly, but essentially just try and keep his new space as "normal" for him as you can. I hope all goes well and don't be afraid to let the staff know what your dad likes and dislikes if he can't tell them!
