Um... how's the weather?

GreenSpiral · 23/09/2021 20:56

Very hot! Although it is definitely cooling now and it is slightly more tolerable Grin AC is a life saver!

Why are you there?

What is your house like?

What language do most people speak?

FiveGs · 23/09/2021 20:58

Bahrain is awesome, lived there a few years. Are you working?

GreenSpiral · 23/09/2021 21:04

Why are you there?

To earn a bit more money and enjoy a better work-life balance. The chance to explore somewhere new!

What is your house like?

We're renting a villa - It's gorgeous! We're paying a lot for it but it's definitely worth it. We're in a small compound with a pool and playground. There's other children for my DD to play with.

What language do most people speak?

Mostly Arabic. A lot of people speak English though or at least have the basics.

Yes I'm teaching Grin

Is Ricks country kitchen still there? And Simon’s sausage corner? Good times.

Zarene · 23/09/2021 21:06

I spent a lot of time there, and found it fucking awful.

I'm sorry, this is going to sound goady but it really isn't meant to - how do you deal with the very apparent discrimination against Shia communities?

FiveGs · 23/09/2021 21:07

Riks! Love that place. Best Long Island Ice Teas on the island Grin

Oh I don't know! I'll have to take a look!

I haven't seen/heard of any discrimination but I don't doubt that it exists. There's discrimination in every country.

HIi GreenSpiral, my son's about to travel to Bahrain, with friends, to attend the F1 race. Can you give any advice on dress code for him? Can he wear shorts? He's been told that shorts need to cover his knees.

Thanks

GreenSpiral · 11/03/2022 19:52

Hi @EvianPukkaWeleda

The dress code is quite relaxed here (except during Ramadan), especially for men. Shorts and t-shirt are fine.

If he needs to enter any government building or police station for whatever reason, he'll have to wear trousers and a long sleeved shirt.

I'm sure your son will have a great time here Grin

Thanks @GreenSpiral, much appreciated.

Shmithecat2 · 20/03/2022 21:32

Ooh, good luck OP. I did an AMA about living in KSA. I had 'blood on my hands' after that Confused. Is this your first stint in the Middle East?

GreenSpiral · 21/03/2022 03:15

Wow really?

Yes it's my first time! Planning on staying next year too.
