Isn’t this ethically really bad - discussing children you supposedly work with?

Ooh this is interesting.

Are the parents pushy?
Are they aiming for the top schools? By that, I mean Eton, Harrow or similar?
Do they go to a prep school too or are they entirely tutored?
If so, do you teach them the whole curriculum?

There’s an AMA board, isn’t there?

Just checked. There is. You’ve posted in the wrong place :) I’ve reported so you can have it moved.

@ghostyslovesheets I wouldn’t discuss the children

What are the parents interactions with their children like? Do they seem to actively care?

It’s easily done! MN created it after AIBU was being overwhelmed with AMAs. They’ll move it across for you.

@Eileen101 They go to school, I do extra hours if needed in the subjects they require.
I live abroad, so this is when they come over to stay in their holiday homes, they tend to come over almost all summer.
The parents vary in how pushy they are, but I’d say the vast majority are very driven themselves.

Ah OP, you've been moved on whether you like it or not eh.

My only question is really dull and that's how did you get these (presumably) higher paying clients. I tutor and would like it to be more profitable as it barely is at times. Were you yourself privileged growing up?

@EmmaGrundyForPM It varies, I’d say they obviously love their children, but many are so distracted by other areas of their lives, it’s very different to my relationship with my Dd..but, the children are generally happy and bright.

Any suggestions as to what teachers could do to improve how your pupils learn?

Where do you live ?

How much do you get paid an hour? Is it more, less or same as normal tutoring?

Report
Snookie00 · 10/08/2021 09:49

What kind of tutoring do you offer and what age are the children?

Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 09:50

@dontgobaconmyheart I know 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣I didn’t even ask to be.

I wasn’t privileged growing up, grew up in a nice area, middle class background, good state school.

I live abroad, lots of ex-pats from around the world, a very international feel. I’m a qualified teacher, but was initially babysitting (also great pay and less work obviously) I was asked by a couple of parents to tutor too, word got around and over summer, I’m booked up. During winter I work for more normal, average families 🤣
I don’t actually charge much extra as I don’t think they accept it being one price for some parents, and another price for them, even though they’re hugely wealthy, they won’t be taken advantage of. They do often overlay though and say to keep the rest etc. It’s mainly just nice working in a beautiful environment, by a pool by the sea.

@Snookie00 From Early years 3 to 13, I don’t tutor to GCSE etc as it’s not my area.

@sailmeaway I’m not sure of hourly tutoring in the U.K.? It can range from €20-50 per hour

I would start at €20 if they’re coming to my home, I’d say only the ‘Average’ families do that as parents are working etc. Some of the wealthier families have given up to €50 as they’re own choice.
