@Wonderbox ‘Best’ caviar 🤣
I’ve no idea, but the wealthy ones I know are also extremely down to earth and I’m not convinced they approach things that way 🤷🏻‍♀️
No, I don’t live or travel with the families as I have a daughter, they are only staying at their holiday homes where I am, for extended holidays.

Justbetweenus · 11/08/2021 15:31

Why do they hire a tutor when they’re on holiday? Are children of rich/famous parents not allowed to play in the pool and go to the beach? What are they being tutored for?

Favouritistfavourite · 11/08/2021 15:36

@Justbetweenus They do that also, but can be here for the whole summer 🤷🏻‍♀️Granted, it’s probably not something I’d do, I’d most likely just let Dd play for the majority of the summer. They still have their tennis lessons, swimming, golf, sometimes language lessons and so on. Lots of parents also hire a personal trainer for the duration, from what I’ve seen, they don’t fully relax the way I would 🤣

OP posts:
Favouritistfavourite · 11/08/2021 15:38

@Justbetweenus It can be whatever the parents feels they are perhaps weaker at, could be maths or spellings or just keeping their reading and writing going over the summer.

@crumpet

People are being really snippy on this thread. It’s only an AMA, and sometimes the glimpses into other people’s lives is quite interesting. Not sure why it’s an issue for some…
This! No questions OP but I'm well jell WinkGrin

@Favouritistfavourite snap - I have the same job! Although I travel with families on their yachts etc (well, I did until last year when I had a baby...)

How do you find most of your clients? Word of mouth or do you still use agencies too? And what nationality are your pupils? I would love to know where you are but I appreciate you want some privacy 😂 I'm guessing somewhere lovely and sunny?

Favouritistfavourite · 11/08/2021 16:08

@Nowisthemonthofmaying Ohhh, lucky you! That’s exactly what I wanted to do and should’ve done years ago, rather than spending years teaching in school. By the time I realised it was an actual thing to do, I was pregnant not long after 😅
I’d prefer not to say 😬 but yes a sunny, holiday destination.
It’s mainly just been through word of mouth, I haven’t been through any paid agencies, but have been contacted by a couple of agencies where I am (not teaching ones) villa maintenance type companies, looking after their homes, who are contacted by the parents enquiring about various things.

OP posts:
Favouritistfavourite · 11/08/2021 16:09

@Nowisthemonthofmaying The pupils are a range of nationalities, but I’d say the majority are British and Russian.

@SayingMyThing 🤣It’s great for the summer, just wish it was as busy, year round!

@Nowisthemonthofmaying How did it work for you, how did you get work and what was the pay etc (if you don’t mind me asking!) I’m
guessing it was considerably more? Did you enjoy it, what qualifications did you need etc? I wonder if it’s at all possible with a child 🙈

One of DH's friends is a nanny to the super rich. She specialises in the first few months so tends to move from family to family every few months, there is usually a "permanent" nanny as well. She is incredibly discreet so would never say who the families are but I know she's been given some incredible perks eg on her w/e off she was offered use of the family's private jet to go anywhere she wanted for the weekend (pre Covid). She also told us once that the baby she was looking after was Christened, and his Godfather gave him a castle as a Christening present. Not a toy castle, a real one.

DH were once in a Greek harbour when an amazing super yacht moored up. The family appeared, complete with baby. Incredibly glam mother was holding baby who was about a year old. A member of staff produced the pram and the mother didnt have a clue how to put it up, the father just walked off, the staff all tried. Eventually the nanny appeared and had the pram sorted in 2 seconds. Clearly neither of the parents had ever used the pram before. It was quite funny but also sad.

Which famous person has the thickest kids? That's the only thing we all want to know.

I havent noticed any invasion of privacy.OP hasnt mentioned where she lives, any clients by name (obviously!!) Any individual descriptions of children etc (or parents)
She tutors the children of wealthy uk and russian families when they are spending the summer abroad and staying in the undisclosed area she lives.....

Favouritistfavourite · 11/08/2021 19:53

@Antsinyourpanta Thank you! I don’t feel

@Favouritistfavourite I started out about ten years ago doing hourly tuition in London via the agencies and then as I got to know the agency people I started getting better jobs, including work abroad in the holidays... These days it's mostly word of mouth although LinkedIn has also been a good source of contacts, Russian fixers and so forth. I never did any really long term jobs, the longest was probably about three months. The last few years I was teaching online during term time and then travelling in the holidays - sometimes staying with a family in their home, sometimes in a hotel nearby or travelling with them. Pay varied tbh, usually for a week it would be between 800-1500 though I know tutors who charge a lot more!

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 11/08/2021 22:55

I loved it though you have to be very good at fitting in with another family. I think you could potentially do it with a child, I took my dh along on a couple of trips before we had a baby and if you have separate accommodation it could be possible. It would only work for certain types of jobs though, if you're with a very chaotic and demanding family as clients it would be more difficult.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 11/08/2021 22:57

Oh and the only qualification I had when I started was a degree from Oxford, I've done a CELTA and an M(Res) in literature since then though.

Favouritistfavourite · 11/08/2021 23:13

@Nowisthemonthofmaying Amazing! Very envious 💜

OP posts:
Favouritistfavourite · 11/08/2021 23:14

@Nowisthemonthofmaying Perhaps a previous poster is correct then about them generally wanting Oxford graduates 🤷🏻‍♀️It hasn’t been my experience, but then I’m not London based etc.

I’m an (ordinary) tutor for GCSE. I used to tutor a famous person’s son. He was known as part of a group with wild, partying ways in the late 80s, early 90s. In his incarnation as dad of teenage son, he was very ordinary, pleasant and doing the same shouting about homework as the rest of us 😁

Favouritistfavourite · 12/08/2021 09:51

@Mistlewoeandwhine Ooh, am curious who that is..! No rock stars here, but some very high profile tv people
