@dworky Where have I written that? Obviously a typo on my phone.

I wasn’t privileged growing up, grew up in a nice area, middle class background, good state school

This looks exactly like privilege to me OP! Maybe your role has skewed your perception of what “privilege” is ?

cafedesreves · 10/08/2021 10:06

Wow you're undercharging! I used to tutor rich kids in London and charged £80/hour - plus the extra that went to the agency!

Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 10:06

@TrifleCat We had large periods of my dad being unemployed, we didn’t have a car for years, my mum had to take three jobs at one stage, with three kids. They worked hard to ensure we were in a lovely area and a good school, yes, but I wouldn’t say privileged.

@cafedesreves Yes, in comparison to the U.K. and Russia etc for sure, the fees are much lower, but the average monthly wage here is €700-800 per month, in comparison, it’s a lot of money.

What's AMA?Hmm

TrifleCat · 10/08/2021 10:14

OK you definitely have a skewed perception of what privileged is.

Do you think it’s because you now have glimpses into how the extraordinarily wealthy live ?

Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 10:23

@TrifleCat No, I don’t.
I’m talking in relation to the houses and lifestyles I witness, financially.
I’m aware that in comparison to many others in the world, I was very lucky to have two loving parents and to live in a relatively safe area with a roof over our heads.
I think you understand I’m talking about real wealth and from that point of view.

What, all of them?

MsHedgehog · 10/08/2021 10:36

Sorry OP, you are privileged, and it’s a shame you don’t recognise it or own it. Privilege isn’t just wealth but education, home life, opportunities, etc.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/08/2021 10:37

@Lighthouseblue

What's AMA?Hmm
@Lighthouseblue

Ask Me Anything = AMA

Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 10:42

@MsHedgehog Ok, yes I realise that. Yes, I am privileged, it wasn’t the point of my post to discuss if I was privileged or not 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

OP posts:
Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 10:43

@MsHedgehog I would imagine the majority of people on here were/are.

OP posts:
TrifleCat · 10/08/2021 11:00

How are the children impacted by their parents lifestyle? We can imagine the good - the money and opportunities they are afforded, is this accurate? And what about bad ? Do the parents spend enough time with the children? Do they have well balanced family relationships?

And are they spoiled ?

MsHedgehog · 10/08/2021 11:06
@MsHedgehog I would imagine the majority of people on here were/are.
Agree completely. Although many will deny it!

Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 11:58

@TrifleCat The children are very lucky, they have anything and everything they want and through no fault of their own, assume everyone else has the same. I’ve noticed they do often talk about materialistic things more and often ask me if I have a huge house, a pool or what car I have or which school I went to 😬 They assume straightaway that I know their school or the area they live in (all London based)
The majority of the children I meet are so lovely, very confident and bright and outgoing.
Many of the parents are away a lot and from the children’s reports, they often have a lot of different nannies through their childhoods.

Thanks, very interesting!

Needapoodle · 10/08/2021 12:36

Do you ever envy the lifestyle your clients have?

crumpet · 10/08/2021 12:37

People are being really snippy on this thread. It’s only an AMA, and sometimes the glimpses into other people’s lives is quite interesting. Not sure why it’s an issue for some…

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 10/08/2021 12:38

Hi OP:
Do you have any tips for how I can help my child learn:

a) Times Tables and
b) Spellings

Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 12:45

@Needapoodle All the time! It’s sometimes strange to come home from a huge villa to my perfectly nice, but normal sized house, it feels so teeny. I also used to have a pretty old, beat up car and used to feel embarrassed driving through the huge gates and parking it on their drives, which I know is ridiculous, but it’s hard not to feel influenced by it all.
However, I would say, material possessions aside, lots of the families didn’t seem particularly happy and were quite uptight and stressy, it just seemed to me that they didn’t really appreciate it all as much as I would, but who knows what happens when you’re in that situation 🤷🏻‍♀️Perhaps it isn’t all you imagined it to be.

OP posts:
Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 12:49

@unlimiteddilutingjuice Lots of repetition! Learning in a fun way too, via games, getting outside etc

OP posts:
Favouritistfavourite · 10/08/2021 12:50

@crumpet I know 🤷🏻‍♀️
