What it says in the title. I'm struggling to find any other mono lungs out there...

Wow, that sounds like a massive deal, I hope you are okay. I don't know anyone with only one lung.

How are you getting on day to day, are you managing okay?

Nengineer · 26/07/2021 10:11

Can I ask if you smoked? I am desperately trying to stop, I can feel my precious lungs weakening, I am desperate. Please tell me how unreasonable it is to damage my 2 lungs. Thanks for sharing this x

If you take a deep breath in, does it feel weird and off balance?

shiningcuckoo · 26/07/2021 12:21

Never smoked. Had pneumonia a couple of years ago and a tumour was found by complete chance. So it was removed with one of the lobes of my lung. Four months ago a regular check up uncovered a new tumour and so the docs recommended the removal of the whole lung.
I don't feel unbalanced. The remaining lung is moving into the centre of my chest.
Biggest issue at the moment is pain from the surgery site. 30 cm curved scar down my back.

How are coping without it

Early days still. I am fine around the house. Struggling with breathing if walking outside. Drove for the first time today. A bit sore but ok.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Was a transplant not an option?

I only had one line removed eleven years ago. I'm told my scar is very neat - oh good.

My breathing is pretty crap, but that's my copd. As soon as I was able, I learned to swim, and was pretty good, not Adam Pratt good, but good for a 60 year old (40 lengths in an hour) before I had to stop.

My back pain, however, has remained. It's not too bad, like a mild toothache, but 11 years of it is a bit wearing.

If you can, I would definitely recommend swimming. It helped me a lot

And that should read "one lobe" and " Adam Peaty ". (Sorry Adam and Mavis)

I had a lobe removed 2 years ago. I've been fine. The whole lung feels like hard work right now. I am worried about being able to travel in the future though. Transplant was never discussed.
