DinosaurDiana · 04/03/2021 17:37

Have you ever seen a passenger have a major panic attack?
How do you calm them down?

iwannafurloughmydp · 04/03/2021 17:39

@DinosaurDiana

Grin hahahaha they all do ! (lucky them !) Blush
Oneearringlost · 04/03/2021 17:41

Do you still call yourself "hostess"?
I thought cabin crew was the more PC term?

RedHeadedChickadee · 04/03/2021 17:43

Do you really wash your knickers in the kettle?

speakout · 04/03/2021 17:44

I am surprised you call yourself an "air hostess".

Which company do you work for?
The term "flight attendant" has been in use for many years.

custardbear · 04/03/2021 17:47

Give us some examples of crazy things that have happened mid air 😋

AgeLikeWine · 04/03/2021 17:52

@Oneearringlost

I raised a sceptical eyebrow at that as well. ‘Cabin crew’ is the term used in U.K aviation & ‘Flight Attendant’ is used in North America.
HOkieCOkie · 04/03/2021 18:04

Is it true you shouldn’t drink the coffee?

beachcitygirl · 05/03/2021 08:59

@AgeLikeWine yes, I've been furloughed for 8 months

No, I've never shagged a pilot. Most crew don't, they are not the most sparkling of company (hired for different skill set) & tend to be obsessed with their pensions. The ones who are good looking tend to be man whores & you just wouldn't. The younger crew do. Also most of them are married and I'm a feminist.

Air Hostess, amongst ourselves we say that, or dollys or just crew. The official title these days is cabin crew, flight attendant is never used, it's an American term. When I was hired I was hired as an air hostess, it changed to Air stewardess but a bit like using a pals maiden name after they have been married 20 years, some stuff sticks.

Don't be nervous. We are super well trained, the turbulence is normal, tell us if you're scared on board and we'll look after you a bit more. The main thing to remember is that we all have families & want to go home to them too, if we thought it dangerous we wouldn't do this job (the money isn't good enough to put ourselves at risk,) take off & landing are the most dangerous times, if nervous look at the crew, if they are chatting away or smiling or looking bored you'll know all is well

No to knickers in the kettle. Total myth, have cooked pasta in it though back In the day.

Yes lots of passengers have major panic attacks, we have a well stocked medicine case on board & with permission from our medic team on the ground we can dispense a sedative, we are all hired for our people skills so a minor panic attack, we can usually just sit and calmly help the poor sod.

Wildest thing - a colleague shagging a major movie star in first class toilet.

beachcitygirl · 05/03/2021 09:02

Nah. Total rubbish, I drink the coffee by the gallon on some flights

OP posts:
Lobelia123 · 05/03/2021 09:04

Are surprise / unexpected / complimentary & unexpected upgrades to business and first class from economy a myth or do they ever really happen? I still live in hope :)

beachcitygirl · 05/03/2021 09:12

@Lobelia123 they do happen, on the ground though, not mid flight. The trick is to be travelling alone and well dressed. We as crew on board will very occasionally upgrade someone on board if there is an issue with their seat. Otherwise I’m afraid it’s unlikely.

Riv12345 · 05/03/2021 16:06

Could you tell us who the movie star was who shagged a colleague in the first class toilet?

Or give us a clue 🤔🤔

Oh go on it's all anonymous on here

HOkieCOkie · 07/03/2021 13:18

@beachcitygirl oh thank goodness!! I love my coffee and I can’t resist ordering it lol

Wherearemymarbles · 21/03/2021 15:45

Is it true that there are codes cabin crew use to let you know that they think of you?

I remember being told by a member of cabin crew many years ago that if on leaving the plane someone say bye bye now it means they think you are pig ugly!

beachcitygirl · 23/03/2021 09:33

Nah that's a load of rubbish. No codes.

Houseofvelour · 26/03/2021 09:01

Years ago on a flight back from New York, we flew through a storm and the turbulence was so extreme that even the cabin crew looked scared and one of them was crying. I'm guessing that's not normal is it? 😅

faithfulbird20 · 26/03/2021 09:08

Do you know any colleagues who were reported for bad behaviour by passengers?
If so who do you report to? I was tempted to email the airline but I didn't know the flight attendants name, all I could do was describe her but she was rather hitler like with other members of staff... felt scared and ruined my flight...
