Any suggestions for how to tie back or get off face shoulder length hair for a boy

A hair elastic?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 28/01/2021 15:12

DS used to use these

Now he just puts it in a pony tail, but it's half way down his back now.

Coolcat245 · 28/01/2021 15:13

In terms of styles other than a ponytail which I can get ds to have

May I note it's hard enough trying to get him to let me tie it back in a ponytail

How old is he? Does he have to have it tied back? DS had to have his off his face for PE/science when he's at school. Other than that it's his hair, his choice. As long as its clean I don't care what he does with it.

He's 10 and was just told that he would have to start putting it up after Christmas as his hair could reach his mouth. He's never had to tie it back for pe so I've just always left it down how he likes it.

DS is 14 and just puts it back in a ponytail for school. I bought him hair elastics when it was long enough to tie back and just left him to it, he was 12 then.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 28/01/2021 17:20

I feel this is going to be a much more relevant topic this year. Both my boys have always had short hair. DS1 (14) won't let me attempt to cut his, so it's now long enough to go behind his ears. DS2 (7) has turned out to have absolutely gorgeous curls that aren't there when his hair is cropped, so he now has a 1D era Harry Styles mop and it's gorgeous. He lets me tie it with one of Dad's hair elastics in a top knot if it's annoying him.

FlibbertyGiblets · 28/01/2021 17:22

Tie it back for PE seems reasonable. I don't understand about his mouth, and who just told him after Christmas what?

As in due to the new term and being back at school. The new rule is if the long hair can touch the boy/girls mouth then they have to tie it back.

@mynameisnotmichaelcaine can't see DS letting me put it up in a top knot (I reckon it's just about long enough) did you have to persuade him to let you?

OP posts:
FlibbertyGiblets · 28/01/2021 17:28

Oh okay.
An elastic, then, as he already does for PE, for the entire school day. May be a thick one if thin ones uncomfortable?

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 28/01/2021 17:30

DS used to use snoods www.amazon.co.uk/Multifunctional-Headwear-Headbands-Bandana-Seamless/dp/B01I1EBWA8/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=snoods+for+men&sprefix=snood&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1611854659&sr=8-7
but we're a non uniform school - they became a bit popular and several other boys turned upbwith them too despite having shortwr hair. He has a ponytail on PE and art/woodwork days now though, and occassionally lets his big sister plair it, mainly to see if its ling enough to donate, which he's aiming to do when hairdressers reopen.

For homeschooling he puts it through the gap in a Baseball Cap by preference. He's nearly 10 and has jealousy inducingly beautiful thick, shiny, straight hair.

I sometimes french braid DS’s fringe, to keep it off his face. He’s 10.

He likes it, but DH was worried he’d get teased.

First time he wore it to school, the boys in his class left school that day with various plaits, braids and ponytails. DS is a bit of a geek - has friends, but not exactly a trend-setter normally. It was nice to see them all having a bit of fun.

Sometimes I just put a plain clip in it, sometimes a thin elastic headband.

@tobeamockingbird that's a good idea but I doubt ds will be willing to let me :(

Should say DD's not Dad's 🤣

He does but he's only 7 and it's not long enough for him to have to tie it up for school.

Coolcat245 · 28/01/2021 18:07

Just ordered ds some elastics the colour of his hair as mine are pink and he refuses to put them in.Am going to put it up
In a ponytail for school but think I may make him put it up for swimming lessons when the leisure centres re open as It is one of the rules which I have bypassed until nowGrin In regards to swimming his hair will be quite long when lockdown ends so putting it into just a mid-ponytail may be difficult to stuff under a cap.Would it be to harsh on him to put it up into a high bun?
