Had a tummy tuck on Wednesday

Also had liposuction and a small repair to a tear in stomach muscle. I'm bored now so if anyone has any questions....AMA and if I can answer, I will!

How do you feel now? What was the procedure like? Have you got the results you expected? Can you post a before and after picture?

Watto1 · 18/10/2020 10:39

Do you mind me asking how much it cost? I’d love to get rid of my post-caesarean apron.

The procedure was fine. I feel a bit bruised at the moment and very tired. I've found the worst bit has been the backache from not being able to stand up straight or lie down flat has been the worse.

I won't know of the final outcome for a few weeks yet. Dressings don't come off till next Wednesday and it'll be a couple of weeks before all the swelling goes down. Will happily post pics at a later date though!

I paid just over £12k but there are several different types of tummy tuck. Mine was the Brazilian which means I was cut hip to hip very low down (below Caesarian scar) and up to and around the belly button which has been reposition. The liposuction was on the area running from under the busy down to the belly button, and on the sides for contouring. If it's 'just' a c section overhang you have you may need a less invasive procedure and it may cost less.

Did you lose all the baby weight before having the procedure? Am I right in thinking it's less likely to give a good outcome if you're still carrying extra weight?

UnsureOct20 · 18/10/2020 11:58

Can I ask why you decided to have it?

Currently on a weight loss journey and expect to have excess skin when I reach my goal.

I've lost all of it and more. I weighed over 16 stone when I had my eldest 20 years ago. I was just over 11 stone last week but I do carry a lot of muscle due to running and working out almost daily. I think it's probably best to lose weight first then have the op. Also, they won't do the procedure if your weight isn't stable.

A number of reasons really. I was fed up of buying clothes a size too big to allow for all the lose skin across my stomach. Skinny jeans were never really skinny as I had to size up! Even with normal jeans, skirts, dresses and T-shirt's.

Also in the warmer weather it would get sore under the fold of skin.

I had lost all the weight I wanted and had maintained the same weight for over a year. And I feel I'm still young enough to benefit from and enjoy the results of the procedure.

So, for the pp asking about pics....I had the dressings changed today and got a couple of pics in between changes. First pic is side on standing up taken a few hours before the op. The second and third I'm laid back on a recliner chair in the clinic. Stood up it's almost completely flat. It's heeling well and the stitches are dissolved now. Got some amazing colours going on with the bruising which runs all the way up both sides from low on the hips up to just above bust line.

Please come back when the bruising has gone down and show us the end result Smile

I'm a week post op and it's pretty much all healed. Just a tiny bit not quite there where they removed the drainage tube Thursday morning. It can take up to a year to heal fully though. The swelling and scar tissue can take a few weeks to clear up.

Gosh. Best of luck with your continued recovery. I'm 8st 4 and work out every day, run miles and miles, eat a good diet and the overhang will never, ever go. My biggest weight during pregnancy was 11.5st. I couldn't afford surgery but wish I had a magic wand!

How long did the surgery take?

I was running 4-6 times a week as well as 2-3 hiit workouts. Prior to lockdown I also did a lot of weight lifting.

20 years ago I weighed over 16 stone. I was 11 prior to the op but I do carry a lot of muscle as well as the lose skin. Not sure what I weigh post op yet due to the swelling and support garments I'm currently wearing!

The op lasted 3.5-4 hours I think.

I took finance out for the op, there are specialist companies that do very low interest rates.

I’m seriously considering this! My stomach looks quite a lot like your ‘before’ pic - I’m 5 pounds off my pre baby / healthy weight but stomach is a horror show.

The only things stopping me are the potential risks (hearing TT is one of the riskiest cosmetic procedures and am a bit panicked about blood clots, things going wrong etc) and the recovery time/ pain. I’ve heard people describe it as total agony!

How painful did you find it? Were you worried about risks/complications?

PostTummyTuck · 23/10/2020 13:49

I can honestly say I've been pain free more or less the whole time! I was offered, and took, morphine whilst in hospital (2 doses in total) and came home with a box of co-codamol.

I took the tablets on time but by Sunday I was down to 3 doses a day. Even had a little dance round the kitchen to whatever was on the radio at the time!

Yesterday I had 2 doses of paracetamol just to help with the 20 minute slow walk to school. Normally takes me 10 minutes! I've only had one lot of paracetamol today.

The worst bit was when they removed the drain from my stomach the day after the op. I nearly passed out but it was over in a few seconds and was given morphine straight after.

I've had some back ache from not being able to lie down properly or stand up straight. I have a lot of pillows on the bed at the moment and can almost stand up straight now. It's much better today though.

Worst bit for me now is not being able to shower still! I'm washing but it's not the same. I've got to remove the dressings tomorrow and take photos to email the clinic. I can then put new (waterproof) dressings on and take a shower. I'll take more pics of anyone wants to see! 😆

I've done a lot of reading up on the procedure over the years and for me the only worry I had was the 1% chance of the bellybutton not 'taking' and falling out! In the end I decided I don't really need a bellybutton and I'd take the risk mostly lighthearted. It's healed up really well though!

Also, re: clots, I was given a pair of rather fetching green knee length stockings to help prevent DVT which I put on prior to the op and I wore till Wednesday.

I also had 14 days worth of blood thinners which I have to inject every day. I couldn't bring myself to do it so my husbands done that for me. He's getting quite good at it too...didn't even feel yesterday's!

I lost 8 stone 5 years ago and really want to get this done. How professional did you find the whole experience and did you have and doubts?

PostTummyTuck · 23/10/2020 14:16

I found the whole thing really professional. The only problem I had was covid related....I had 3 operations cancelled due to lockdown before the 4th went ahead. And my first covid test result didn't materialise so had to have a second one done on the day.

I had little worries the whole time, I think that's only human! It was along the lines of 'what if I die on the table' or 'what if the stitches don't work and it all opens up'! I'm a natural worrier anyway.

2 weeks beforehand I had a couple of hours where I was like 'what the hell am I thinking, I can't do this!?'. I'm glad I've had it done now though, when I look at my before pics and how unhappy I was with the way I looked and felt.
