I'm a semi-successful musician in a rock band. It's my only occupation, has been for some years. I've been a lot of places, seen a lot of stuff and met a lot of people. Ask me anything. I can't answer everything for various reasons but let's see how it goes...

OP posts:

@LunaNorth - well that's nice but I wasn't asking you I was asking OP.

How is money split between song writers and performers - so do you earn more if you wrote the song being played compared to other band members compared to where you are just performing a song written by another song writer?

FizzyGreenWater · 24/07/2020 21:06

Are your legs the same length?

LadyofTheManners · 24/07/2020 21:09

Are you in a band that is two words, starting with M and J?
If so you guys are brill

HugeBowlofChips · 24/07/2020 21:10

What job would you be doing if you weren't in music? And do you ever wish you were doing that job instead?

FizzyGreenWater · 24/07/2020 21:10

Oh I love Mandy's Jubblies.

speakout · 24/07/2020 21:13

Are you one of the Osmonds?

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2020 21:13

I've seen a lot of bands, been backstage more times than I can remember and met a lot of people in bands.

They say that meeting your heroes is always disappointing, and with only a couple of exceptions I'd say this was pretty true.

So who has been the biggest disappointment in who you've met?

Also, do you think Tim Burgess deserves an OBE for services to the music industry and for helping to save Gorilla and the Deaf Institute? I think a campaign should be started to get him one.

NoProblem123 · 24/07/2020 21:16

Did anyone say you need to get a proper job and that you’d never make a living from it ?

If so, have you had the chance to gloat (ideally) in person ?

If yes, were you gracious or a complete git about it Grin

britINscotland · 24/07/2020 21:16

whereabouts in the UK are you from?

are you male or female?

I know Sharleen Spiteri.

speakout · 24/07/2020 21:16

Are you Don Estelle?

serenada · 24/07/2020 21:17

@RedToothBrush

Oh yes - Tim's listening party is the highlight of lockdown. Have you managed to get one of the badges yet?

Also, Mark Ronson (not usually a fan) is very funny online and strangely keeping my sanity at the moment (I think he is slowly losing his)

Bellesavage · 24/07/2020 21:18

Do you like the after parties? They would be my idea of hell, I'd just want to go to bed, on my own!

BullshitVivienne · 24/07/2020 21:21

What brings you to Mumsnet?

MilkshakeandFries · 24/07/2020 21:22

@ThickFast GrinGrin

paradyning · 24/07/2020 21:22

Ah Tim. A Dead, dead good link to my user name for those geeks out there.

MsMiaWallace · 24/07/2020 21:23

Have you played Rock City??

JacobReesMogadishu · 24/07/2020 21:24

I feel a bit deflated reading that Kasabian have a full roast dinner with gravy and cloth napkins before going on stage. I mean it’s not very rock and roll!

Do you have stalker type fans who follow you from gig to gig and scream at you?

Coldspringharbour · 24/07/2020 21:26

Have you played with Billy Joel.

Kudostoyou · 24/07/2020 21:29

Are you on the pandemic payment?

ssd · 24/07/2020 21:29

Are you loaded?

LadyofTheManners · 24/07/2020 21:30

@FizzyGreenWater

Oh I love Mandy's Jubblies.
Grin I was thinking more Mystery Jets
Crabeyes · 24/07/2020 21:30

Have you ever dived off the stage?

RedToothBrush · 24/07/2020 21:30

No I haven't got a badge yet.

Been around long enough to know Tim is one of the good 'uns even before this.

Most of the musician I know (who are still pretty banjaxed by coronavirus) are starting to go slightly bonkers if social media is anything to go by. Bored doesn't cut it as a description.

There are some pretty well known bands who have members doing jobs on the side during the crisis which are pretty surprising.

I really feel for them all as there is no end in sight for most of them, given that the main way most make an income is through touring these days (no money in record or digital sales). Looks like its likely to be March 2021 at the earliest before things in the industry begin to return to anything like normal.

On that note, I do wonder what the OP is up to and what brings them to MN...

MorganKitten · 24/07/2020 21:33

You’ve supported Kasabian so not overly rocky band then? And a newer band?
