Disneyland Paris??

Hi all, I’m thinking of booking up Disneyland for December with 10 Ds and 2 Ds ! I have read somewhere that you now require an app to meet the characters? Is this correct? I don’t wish to pay the mega prices to only see 3 characters the whole time we’re there? My eldest is a ride person but my youngest would be for characters anyone been recently who could help ??
