Anal skin tag removal surgery

Soo, name inspired by AmateureArseDoctor's thread. I went to a professional doctor this morning after my attempts at self surgery failed (rather painfully I may add), and now I'm waiting for the pain to kick in.

Just thought I'd throw a thread up as skin tags are a bitch and everything I've read suggests recovery from this is so painful that people regret the surgery. Thought someone may be curious Wink

Surgery was only about 15 minutes, they injected my bum with loads of local anesthetic before I came around from the general, so the pain is only kicking in slowly now. I've taken ibuprofen and will be religiously taking that, my antibiotics and my lactulose.

To update, I've had ibuprofen about 4 hours ago now and still don't appear to be in much pain.

Slightly alarmed as I'm still waiting for the agony that others have documented.

The pain will probably hit you first thing!

megletthesecond · 24/02/2020 21:54

I had an anal polyp removed and was ok for the first 48hrs. I think the morphine was still in my system until then.

ClubfootMaestro · 24/02/2020 21:55

I have a skin tag and am debating getting It removed - had no idea it would be painful so watching with interest!

BillywigSting · 24/02/2020 21:59

I also have a skin tag that itches so badly it keeps me awake. I got some ointment from the Dr that has a steriod and an anesthetic in it but I just want it gone tbh.

Watching with interest.

The pain hits when you use the loo. Sorry!

ProfessionalArseDoctor · 25/02/2020 11:24

I haven't had painkillers since about 8ish last night. The pain isn't even equivalent to a headache so far, and the consultant said mine looked pretty bad apparently.

I haven't been to the loo yet, so I'll let you know how that goes, whenever the lactulose kicks in. I didn't have morphine, just local anesthetic injected in the area but surely that's gone now.

Maybe the best way to describe is when you have a bad upset stomach and it feels slightly burn-y after.

Have just decided to take some ibuprofen, not for pain, but it occurred to me that there's probably swelling that I should take it for.

I have found that coughing or sneezing is a little uncomfortable, but not enough to even make my eyes water.

ProfessionalArseDoctor · 25/02/2020 12:35

Have just been to the loo. Again wasn't that bad! Slightly uncomfortable but stopped short of actual pain, also dislodged the final bit of dressing that had been irritating me (think was stuffed up my arse! Made me feel like I needed the loo constantly when I didn't) which was a bonus.

I'll update for a few days until I stop taking the antibiotics, but if this is as bad as it gets then fantastic! If anybody comes across the thread later then they'll have something to counteract all the hideous stories I found when doing my research.

Can I ask what made you get the surgery?
I have one but experience no pain or discomfort from it, so removing it would be purely for cosmetic reasons. Still think about getting it done though!

ProfessionalArseDoctor · 25/02/2020 13:02

I had several, a couple of horizontal ones, some smaller ones and one the size of a small grape.

They really bugged me, hard to clean after going to the loo, could feel one in particular all the time, and despite the opinion of many mumsnetters, I like anal sex and they put me off.

I did have to go private as it wasn't covered by the NHS. Was £1,630 in the South East, so I guess cheaper in other places.

Ah that makes lots of sense thank you. Hope you're recovering well!

Littlegoth · 26/02/2020 07:05

I had one frozen off at my GPS years ago! Hurt like hell while they were doing it but was fine after.

Hope I never get another!

Littlegoth · 26/02/2020 07:06

Mine was external though x

ProfessionalArseDoctor · 26/02/2020 08:45

They were all external, just sitting there getting in my way!

Hurts more this morning, but think because I still bed share with an almost 2 year old who kept flopping onto me in the night, which made me tense everything. Still not equivalent to a headache though.

I am walking slowly to make sure I don't accidentally hurt myself but I think it's ok. Only hurts if I go to pick up a child, and they're both 30lb+ so I'm not surprised about that.

Another slightly amusing side effect is that I can fart properly again Grin They had muffled and prevented farts apparently. I'm not so sure I like this side effect!

Grin
ProfessionalArseDoctor · 04/03/2020 23:08

Not sure I have much to say. Definitely didn't hurt as much as I read and was warned by the consultant. It did occasionally have a few minutes of burning pain but less than 5 at a time.

Still slightly uncomfortable going to the loo but seriously worth the pain and inconvenience of very slow walking for a few days. Hopefully someone finds this hopeful if they're researching for their own procedure.

@Itsso00 @ClubfootMaestro @BillywigSting Hi all. Did you guys have the surgery to remove your skin tags? If so, how was it?

Newsenmum · 16/12/2025 21:30
