As the title implies, do your worst mumsnet!

@SlothOfSluggishness it can match the wonky eyeliner/wild hair and shoved on socks 😅 massive confession, brushing my teeth is a depression stalemate anyway but it’s not too bad when I do. I wash my hair every ten days to fortnight as it’s so thick and I’m not touching it, but getting shampoo/conditioner on is either a sharp squirt, or playing patticake between the shelf palm and working hand... I bloody hate it

I should add my phone has died it’s death so I apologise for slow sloppy replies, iPad screen takes a lot more effort to type on.

That sounds like such a nightmare!

I hope you are receiving all the right benefits. That’s an ongoing fight for me.

CMOTDibbler · 01/12/2019 13:00

Top tip on the shampoo/ conditioner is getting a big pump bottle (loads on Amazon) and decanting things into that. So much easier with one hand

JuniperBeer · 01/12/2019 13:02

@onehanded you can put all your loyalty cards on your phone now! Stocard app. That might be helpful!

OneHanded · 01/12/2019 13:11

@SlothOfSluggishness gosh we could run a whole new thread for the shocking mess that is the benefits system! Finally got awarded PIP after six months, but UC was so little my parents were paying for my groceries, letting me live rent free, paying for anything and everything basically.

I hope you get it sorted soon, if I can help at all message me ❤️

@CMOTDibbler excellent tip thank you! It’s annoying as I try to live as zero waste as possible but that would be great for filling up at the eco store.

Thanks @JuniperBeer ! I’ve got a lot on my Apple wallet but my phone has died completely and won’t turn on now! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thank you dear. It’s so boringly complicated, all that PIP/ESA stuff. I’m in the midst of PIP renewal and it’s terrifying.

My most recent ESA thingy took over two years from doing the form! Only got letter a couple of weeks ago saying all is ok and no change thank gosh.

FIST BUMP to whichever hand you deem suitable, for us both being gloriously crap at life.

MzPumpkinPie · 02/12/2019 00:15

@OneHanded my eldest DC has hemiplegia cerebral palsy ( left side) his left side is very weak and I had a brain stem bleed this year and now we match.
He thinks it's great we are twinning the useless left hand.
I'm not really feeling the love for it to be fair !

MzPumpkinPie · 02/12/2019 00:19

I was given this by OT to stop my hand clawing .
It's an unsightly thing ( I wear a fingerless glove over it when I go out ) but it does the job.

CMOTDibbler · 02/12/2019 07:23

MsPumpkin, that is pretty unsightly! I had a thermoplastic night splint (which I hated, but also needed to protect my wrist once it was fused), but also have compression gloves made to measure (by the Queen Vic hospital in East Grinstead who do them by post) with velcro straps so you can both keep your fingers extended, and flex them straight rather than into your palm. It is very effective and non intrusive - in fact just the stiffness of the velcro on the back of my fingers keeps them in a much better position

MzPumpkinPie · 02/12/2019 08:11

I've got an appointment today at 10 actually, so I'll ask my neurologist about a referral for a glove .
Thank you !
She's pretty useless though, she asked me how I was still alive 4 weeks ago and that was about it 😂

CMOTDibbler · 02/12/2019 08:32

This is a bad picture of my original glove. The hand therapists were amazing, and not having the swelling from my hand being at my side all the time makes a lot of difference even this far out when my focus isn't on a normal hand shape but on it being abnormal in a useful way

CMOTDibbler · 02/12/2019 08:34

The long velcro bits come off btw, or can go on the back to stiffen it. The soft velcro side is what is stitched to the glove

MzPumpkinPie · 02/12/2019 09:00

I'm not taking no for an answer for a referral.
It's bad enough I've got the tip of one finger missing.
If my hand claws right up that will dig in my palm and as my left side is a bit numb I won't know what's going on.
Can't understand why I haven't even had physio yet and I'm almost 5 months post stroke.
Waiting lists apparently!

CMOTDibbler · 02/12/2019 09:46

That is appalling. I was incredibly lucky to get physio early, and from someone with a lot of hand experience as she'd worked at a burns centre and knew what was out there and how to treat nerve pain. The hand surgeon and team at the hospital had nothing to offer at all and when the physio wanted me to have a finger support splint, they made a plaster of paris one! I then managed to get a referral to a hand team who made thermoplastic splints there and then, and it only took a hours wait to get the custom glove and bits.
If your hand is very tight, ask about botox. One of my fingers decided to go in the opposite direction to all the others which was amazingly inconvenient, and I had a few botox sessions to loosen it which combined with physio worked wonders and after the fourth injection it stopped doing it

theoriginalmadambee · 02/12/2019 10:10

Sorry to butt in, but would any of these work for you, so you won't get burned? Best of luck.

Splints unite! I melted mine (also thermoplastic @CMOTDibbler) on a hot water bottle just as a warning and it’s never fit right since even after a re-fitting. Definitely not butting in thanks @Madambee 😊

Definitely scream and shout and stomp to get that physio @MzPumpkinPie I’ll help do it too in spirit and support! I stopped as soon as I was told they’d no longer do a nerve transfer as I play with my fingers all day anyway but it sounds like you’re the perfect candidate and where it’s most valuable!

Honestly all amazing women, I commend your sense of humours too!
