I'm 5th of 8 kids, all from same mother and father. Born in 1970.

Someone asked above whether I think it would be easier today.

No, definitely not! Today teachers tend to assume that parents are monitoring /assisting homework and exam prep. I have no idea what kids without parental involvement in that are expected to do.
