AMA
I watched my hubby win cash on Who Wants to be a Millionaire AMA
DuckWillow · 29/08/2019 19:19
We are not millionaires (just to get that out of the way)
DuckWillow · 29/08/2019 20:12
Clarkson, only filmed a month ago.
He won £64k but we don’t have the money yet.
As for coughing at the right answer...ha...like that was EVER going to happen. He’s great at quizzing and I am not,
It was one day of filming and most of the day he was in rehearsal. Me and DS went to the local shopgirl centre (Lowry Centre).
Watching the filming was a surreal experience as I didn’t expect him to get in the hot seat.

Why haven't you got the money yet? When will you get it? Why didn't you get it sooner?
Number3or4 · 30/08/2019 09:25
What is the first item you want to buy? Remember, I said want not will.
DuckWillow · 30/08/2019 09:40
We don't have the money yet as in the paperwork it said around 30 days after the show airs.
We will have to live off the cash to a certain extent as his income isn't that high. I don't work at the moment as DS is autistic but will be returning to work next year... thats the plan anyway.
He was getting to the stage where his car needed replacing so he will buy a newer car (not new).
As for "wants" that will be the garden having some work done and DS's bedroom needs doing.
And we will have a week in Lake Garda for our 20th wedding anniversary next year.
But it still doesn't seem real and won't until he gets the money.
LadyGAgain · 30/08/2019 11:21
Congratulations! It's lovely to hear of real people winning and for whom the money makes a difference.
Was your heart in your mouth throughout? Did he ask the audience and was the answer the right one?
pepperpot99 · 30/08/2019 11:23
I have a few bills atm so, if you're feeling generous OP.....
KatherineJaneway · 30/08/2019 11:25
Are you worried friends and relatives will ask you for money or loans?
DuckWillow · 30/08/2019 12:38
Filming was a bit of a nerve wracking experience...for me haha!
Once they'd established he'd won the fastest finger bit they stopped filming and I had to go and have a microphone put on in case I attempted to cough any answers (like that was going to happen, I'm not that good).
He used his first lifeline at £2000 as it was related to Ed Sheerhan and there was no way he was going to know that but he knew the audience would.
I didn't know it so I didn't press.
The audience did indeed know. Thank you audience 😁
I knew a couple of the bigger answers but not many.
As for family... we are generally the poor relations so no issues.
We are planning to send my Mum and Dad on holiday though. My Dad has Alzheimers so getting experiences in while he still has lots of abilities and memory is good.
Planning to book them a caravan near where they used to take us on holidays as children. My Dad won't cope with flying anywhere and this particular place has happy memories for them.
My parents don't have a lot of money so it will be nice to do this for them. We'll also gift them some cash just to enjoy.
Hubby applied back in March and then had 2-3 interviews. They asked him sample questions the first two times and then did a Skype interview. He got a date shortly after.
They film two episodes at a time so there were 12 contestants in the hotel. It was great meeting them all and had a great time chatting to other guests but galling to know they wouldn't all get a chance of getting in the seat. We went with no expectation of DH being successful so it was a nice bonus.
SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 30/08/2019 12:43
My question is, did he practise doing the fastest finger first thing at home after he found out he'd been choosen?
Also, do they change the questions as they go along depending on the person playing?
And did Clarkson say much to him after the show etc?
DistantVworp · 30/08/2019 12:53
What was the Skype interview like? I can understand the question samples but what we're they looking for in the interview?
£64k is a great result, well done your DH
DuckWillow · 30/08/2019 13:22
He did do some practice for fastest finger but you never know what you’ll get on the day. They picked him and the other contestants up at 11am for rehearsals and didn’t film until after 6pm. DH says that they did lots of Fastest Finger practices and he was only first once.
As for the questions...DH is really into history and his job involves sharing this with others. He didn’t get any history questions but don’t know if that was by luck or if they ensure it.
The computer broke down once and the previous contestant’s name and his previous question came up but they realised that straight away,
Jeremy Clarkson was very chatty, he and DH just bounced off each other and made each other laugh, naturally JC was very close to edge with some stuff so lots was cut out. He came in to meet everyone before filming and said to just relax and enjoy it and to use the lifelines if needed. DH liked him but we know from other reports that he can be obnoxious and rude if he’s tired and/or hungry.
The lady who went on after DH was a female plumber and JC said “wow, a female plumber and you’re not Polish” which was obviously cut in the editing suite for obvious reasons.
The Skype interview was fun according to DH, I was out with DS so it was quiet here but he says it was a good laugh.
The one thing that really made me laugh was that when he got to rehearsals the make up and wardrobe girls dismissed all his clothes as not suitable so went out and bought him a new shirt, tee shirt and new shoes. He was obviously too unfashionable for them so they brought him up to date and he got to bring the clothes home. He now says he had £64k out of them and the shirt off their back too.
Deadringer · 30/08/2019 13:26
Wow congratulations! You actually answered my question in a pp, I always wanted to know if an audience member has to chose an answer even if they don't know it, so thanks for that.
SinkGirl · 30/08/2019 13:28
I used to work with a guy whose dad won £250k and then he went on and won £125k. Lucky bastards.
I’m so happy for you.
LaMarschallin · 30/08/2019 13:32
Well done your husband!
Congratulations 😀
[I really want to go on "Pointless" but suspect Richard Osman would take out a restraining order on me afterwards (I LOVE YOU RICHARD ❤).]
Anyway, did he (and/or you) have to sign something about not revealing the outcome afterwards until the episode was televised?
It's just I've heard about some shows that request that and I think it must be so difficult not to blurt it out.
ajandjjmum · 30/08/2019 13:47
How fabulous OP.
We went to a recording of Pointless yesterday LaMarschallin - was interesting, but they didn't seem to waste much time. Many years ago we went to a recording on Millionaire, and it seemed to be retake after retake!
LaMarschallin · 30/08/2019 13:52

So jealous! But it sounds like there wasn't much time to gaze at Richard then 🙁?
(Can you drop any hints as to which episode? So, when it's screened, I could wave at you)
