I've been blogging about perfume since 2013. Ask me anything. No snobbery, all budgets and nothing is off the table.

Thanks for your reply. I did think their suggestion was a bit off and I won't be buying anymore Jo Loves which gutted about! I'm not sure if you have ever tried the Aldi perfume which is based on Jo Malone (lime, basil and mandarin etc) and how you think they compare to the real thing?
I'm going to have a look for the Ellie Saab and Bottega perfumes.....Thankyou!

LumiereLennie · 01/09/2019 17:28

I have been inspired by your Avon love to stick up on a few as gift selections. How do you figure out which scents to buy people you don’t know terribly well? I’m thinking in terms of my TAs and friendly neighbours...

bobloblawlawblog · 02/09/2019 12:12

Just tried the Fleur Musc- is lovely. Has definitely got a hint of Kate to it as well!

MissBattleaxe · 02/09/2019 14:30

@areyoutheredenise I haven't tried the Aldi ones as I'm more of a Lidl shopper (is this reverse snobbery?) anyway, if it works for you, buy it. There's no place for snobbery when it comes to choosing your perfume. Some days I feel that choosing my perfume is the only decision I make that's truly just for me.

@LumiereLennie it's always a gamble but I have usually found that a light and airy non-controversial floral usually goes down well. Try Avon Elegance or Avon Eve. I give a lot of perfume to people and I have usually found that they don't buy perfume for themselves so they're always really pleased. or just very good at faking it!

Sorry, meant to say Avon Eve Truth

@MissBattleaxe I ordered a sample of Bottega Veneta and all absolutely love it! Strong and unusual scent just what I love! You are a genius ! Smile

MissBattleaxe · 05/09/2019 10:31

@quaaludesonchristmaseve that makes me so happy! Thank you for letting me know you love it. I'm so chuffed x

Not specific to perfume but how did you get into blogging? I've started a travel vlog and would love to reach a wider audience and I'm unsure how.

JanT2004 · 05/09/2019 20:37

@MissBattleaxe love this thread. Both myself and my daughter used to love Cacharel Promesse which was discontinued a while ago. Do you know of anything similar? It's my birthday next week and would ask my husband to treat me if you know of anything. Thanks.

MissBattleaxe · 06/09/2019 17:29

@Butterflycookie I started with Wordpress and then opened a Twitter and Facebook account. Follow, like and comment to get your profile up with brands and followers.

It helped to follow similar blogs and comment on them. I monetised using Google ads and skimlinks although neither pays much. Try and enter any awards that are going. I reached the finals of the Jasmine Awards twice (I'm determined to win one!).

On the back of this I've started my own social media management business too so I look after other people's now too!

@JanT2004 Ah yes, there are a couple of Cacharels that have been discontinued, much to the disappointment of their fans! I haven't smelled Promesse but it has berries, powdery notes and peony.

I would recommend Lancome Tresor Midnight Rose, Coach Floral eau de parfum or, at a stretch, Gucci Envy Me.

MissBattleaxe
I love Coty's Wild Musk - I know Blush
But unfortunately it doesnt seem to be available in Europe. Sad
I think it's still available in the US though.
It annoys me that its not available in Europe

MissBattleaxe · 06/09/2019 19:51

Coty Wild Musk is amazing! Don't ever apologise for what you like! xx

I love musk too but have not worn it in case it is too sexy ha ha!! That is embarrassing. I love tuberose too but it isnt as obviously *oh that is the sexy perfume"

What do you think of body shop musk?
They have a musk mixed with rose i think. It is nice i think.

MissBattleaxe · 07/09/2019 19:38

@31RueCambon75001 musk is a big spectrum. The sexy musks are usually heavy animalics- one example would be Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Kahn, which smells like warriors and vikings! at the other end are the fresh laundry musks that smell super clean and vaguely angelic. An example would be Philosophy Amazing Grace or JLo Glow.

Personally, I love Body Shop White Musk, although I think it's weaker than it used to be. I only use the oil as the spray is too light for me.

Best budget perfume please???

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 07/09/2019 19:45

So: my absolute fave summer perfume of recent years - Shay and Blue Almond Cucumber - has been discontinued. What would you suggest as a replacement? It's definitely bee my signature scent, but is totally unavailable now :-(

Dreamtheimpossibledream · 07/09/2019 19:48

Sorry - another help me with my perfume question! I have worn Jo Malone French Lime Blossom for years but it’s now discontinued. Do you know anything even remotely similar? Thanks v much.

PeterRabbitt · 07/09/2019 20:01

@missbattleaxe could you recommend a citrussy perfume for me? I've used a Hugo boss one and also light blue for years but I would like something that pairs well with my almond shower and lotion products?

MissBattleaxe · 07/09/2019 20:15

@downbutnotout2018 You're in luck! I've just done my annual Avon top ten perfumes bit.ly/2knFRID

Also, here's a post I wrote about perfumes under a tenner bit.ly/2FHUIFI

@AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore You might like 4160 Tuesdays Scenthusiasm, DKNY Be Delicious, or London by Gallivant. You can buy samples from the 4160 Tuesdays website or the Gallivant site. DKNY Be Delicious is widely available so you should be able to find a tester. HTH! x

Could you recommend any perfume that smells like a cyclamen flowers? They are so unbelievably delicious-smelling.

I found Maybe Baby by Benefit which has a bit of cyclamen in amongst other flowers and is affordable but not long-lasting. Apparently L (AMB?) by Gwen Stefani was a bit similar but that isn’t on sale any more so would love to hear about any cyclamen scents.

planestrains · 07/09/2019 20:35

What a fascinating thread and it's inspiring me to be a bit more adventurous. I have worn Alien by Thierry Mugler for years (and prior to that Cool Water for Women for years!) Based on that could you recommend something else I should try? Thank you!
