I'm really curious , everyone has their own view of what is rich and what is poor . What would you class as being poor ? What would you class as being rich?

What do you class as luxuries etc ?

As others have said, poor = struggling to afford basics, even with careful budgeting. Difficult to put an exact figure on that but probably less than £10k/year per adult in the household. Maybe less than £12k for a single adult.

Rich to me is £50k per adult in the household, ie approx double the national average wage (though no doubt someone will be along to tell me it's a real struggle to live on that).

Rich to me is when you can afford to fly first class. I can't ever imagine myself in a situation where I'd rather sit in economy and save the money!

Poor would be only being able to pay for essentials and only just. Not being able to buy new clothes when you need them and not being able to treat yourself.

Rich would be in essence, not having to worry about how much purchases cost.

The amount as a number would vary with mortgage, area you live in, travel expenses etc.

But I'd say someone having £12k or less a year in a medium priced area (not inner London but not rural Scotland) would be poor.

Someone with 150k or more in similar circumstances would be rich. Basically I'd say this with the above parameters:

8k or less a year - poverty
8-12k - poor
12-18k harder up than most but not poor
18-30k - normal/average
30-50k - comfortable
50-100k - well off/middle class
100-150k - upper middle class type, comfortable but not bottomless re cash
150k-500k - Rich
500k-1m - very rich
More than 1m - elite.

It's all relative to your own position. Bit like driving:
Everyone faster than you is a maniac
Everyone slower than you is an idiot...
