Hi, I'm new to mumsnet and don't have any children, but thought it was a safe place to get advice on womens refuges. I'm currently preparing to flee a DV situation and am absolutely terrified. I don't know where I'm going (they literally send you to where ever has availability on the day) and have no idea what to expect. Does anyanyone have experience of living in one and/or advice on how to prepare myself and get through the whole thing?!! Thanks :)

I hope by now you are safe OP
important things are paperwork (like ID docs) any prescription medicine, clothes and toiletries etc and anything portable you need to stay sane (for me that would be a few books, my knitting, a radio, phone charger...
however only prepare like this if you can do it without arousing suspicion, remember that abusers ramp up abuse if they sense you are about to break free
Ultimately the refuge will be able to help you with anything you can't manage to bring, women and children often arrive with literally nothing.

It's ok, I went to one in a really rough area and was afraid to go but the women were lovely and friendly.
It will be fine, everyone will support you and they are all willing to talk about their situation.
A lot better than being with a violent man. It will be the start of your new life and you get loads of great advice and help there too.
Good luck Flowers
