I am an adult gymnast, currently laid up with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon, also a Canadian in the U.K., so if you’re curious about any of those, fire away!

When you say adult gymnast, are you doing it professionally or as an interest.

How did you injure yourself and how long will it take you to recover?

UchimuraBabies · 15/08/2018 18:36

I’m not a professional, gymnastics was my sport in my youth and I got back into it 4 years ago. I do coach professionally though.

I injured myself doing gymnastics! On the takeoff for a back tuck, I knew as soon as I took off that the Achilles had snapped. I don’t actually know how long the recovery is going to take, if you mean how long before I can do sport again. 4-6 months I figure. Good thing I have experience in this department, I snapped the other one playing squash several years ago!

How different is the UK from Canada? Why are you in the UK?

How different is the U.K. from Canada?

Wow, where to start! I’ve been here over 20 years so I’m trying to remember the things that struck me as most different when I first got here. Obviously no language barrier but all the different words for things eg sarnie, butty, bap, when all I’d ever used was ‘sandwich’!
Getting rounds in at the pub was new to me. Not much else sticks out though, I’m quite adaptable.

London was great when I first arrived as I’m from a big Canadian city. Village life, once I’d met and moved in with my husband (born and bred in a small English town), took some getting used to - sooooo conservative, far away from everything, and I had to learn the joys of cricket! But my neighbours were great and I had a lot of help when our children were small, especially from my fabulous in-laws.

The weather’s the same though 😀.
